Some of you may remember that I purchased a P4 last month for the purpose of video editing and encoding. Here is my setup.
P4 1.6A@2.138(133FSB) GHz at default voltage with Intel stock HSF.
MSI 645Ultra Motherboard
512 MB of Crucial PC2100 CAS2.5@CAS2
Plextor 12x10x32 SCSI
Pioneer Slot Load DVD ROM SCSI
Western Digital 20 Gig(NTFS) For programs and misc files.
Western Digital 30 Gig(NTFS) For Video Files
ATI All in Wonder Radeon 7500 Retail
Linksys 10/100 NIC
Adaptec SCSI Controller
USB Zip 250
Inwin S500 Case with 250W PowerMan powersupply
I must say I was expecting good performance but not the best since I was using a DDR based P4 setup and the consensus seems to be to use a Rambus based system if you want to maximize the potential of the P4.
I was therefore pleasantly suprised when I was able to encode MPEG-2 Video to Divx AVI files at between 23 and 30 FPS. When encoding widescreen captures, the framerate was about 40-45. Tom's Hardware posted an article in which they used a P4 2000 with Rambus. My results seem to be comparable to his. I was wondering what results other people were seeing with their system setups.
I am using xmpeg4.2a and divx 4.12 with the YUY2 colorspace.
