" 00/09/29, 8:48pm - I know this probably won't interest many of you<g>, but I found some interesting Pentium 4 (Willamette) performance information from a nice person whose name I cannot divulge (he asked to be referred to as "one guy on the net". However, the information definitely is worth repeating. Apparently, it's allegedly Intel Confidential numbers for the processor. ogotn tells me that these numbers represent final product, not preproduction crap (after all, why would Intel release official scores, however normalized, on unready parts?). Most of the benchmarks are iMark style tests, and I wasn't given those. I was, however, given a few more relevant (eg, at least one of them isn't made by a company that Intel owns part of) benchmarks that are scored normalized to a 1.00GHz Pentium III:
3DMark 2000
P4-1.40: 1.08
P4-1.50: 1.13
Quake III
P4-1.40: 1.21
P4-1.50: 1.23
SysMark 2000
P4-1.40: 1.01
P4-1.50: 1.06
ogotn's added comment: "btw p4 performs best in 'NASTRAN' ... what the hell is that? " (I suggested that this particular benchmark may stand for something like "Not A Significant Test -- Renders Athlon Neutered".
Just kidding. It's actually a scientifically oriented program made by these guys.
Okay, okay, here's the scores for this one ... it is speculated that this program is very heavy with the memory usage (though it could be well optimized for floating point on the Willamette:
NASTRAN:
P4-1.40: 1.80
P4-1.50: 1.89
Hmmm ... I don't have any Athlon comparison scores that I can share for this. If anybody can pass any through me(er, yuk), please do so.
BTW, the news in general is reporting that Apple is on crack. I could have told you that years ago.
(just kidding!!!<g>)
Mmf. The irc server I've been frequenting occasionally can be now found at here for the mircless. "
Ouch
