hi :)
i just came into some money (love gambling) and am considering upgrading my p4 2.26 (533) to a "c" class cpu (2.4,2.6,2.8...) and am wondering if it runs with drr 333 or if i need to also upgrade the memory to ddr400. not doing any over clocking atm and would honestly dont want to buy newer memory now and save for the newer ddr2 memory later on.

so does 333 work with the c series? if so does it slow it down or do anything different than if i used 400? i know 400 would be faster but wondering more about performance with 333.

any help would be greatly appreciated :)

if it wont work i will just wait and buy the 2 hard drives i plan on - look at hardware for my other question on those :)

ohh if my sig isnt updated i am using a p4p800 non deluxe and the drr 333 is samsung - 2x512
thanks

you will definantely see a difference in memory intensive applications, like games for example, using dual channel DDR400 compared to DCDDR333. If it was me i'd go DDR400.

ok, i know that 400 ddr would have alot better performance boost but will 333 using a 800fsb cuase a problem or make the cpu slow down so as not to run like say a 2.4c ?

i know that question doesnt sound right but cant figure out a better way of asking.

i guess i should ask would a 2.6 (800) be faster than a 2.6 (533) using ddr 333 memory?

It will work fine.
Your cpu will still be running @ 2.4ghz or whatever, but will have to wait for the slower ram. The ram will probably run @ DDR320 speed.
Its not the best setup, but you wont have any problems, and it'll still be quicker than a 533fsb chip.

It works just fine,I have a 2.4c OC to 3ghz with 1 gig pc2700.

FSB = 250mhz RAM at 166mhz using the 3:2 devider.

thanks guys ;)
i wish i could afford new quailty higher mem but really want 2 harddrives to raid. i am not sure if iwill even buy the cpu since i dont see my 2.26 being my bottleneck and since i dont plan on playing doom or halflife i am not sure if upgrading now is better than saving money and seeing how the war fairs between amd64 and whatever intel does to tackle it.

unless someone can say i will see a really noticeable improvement. i play mostly shadowbane and will play the future games like it. i think right now my hard drive is the bottle neck since i have a 9700 radeon and dual channel memory set up(even if 333).

just considering it since the 2.6c is selling for 249 can

I'd stick with what you've got and go for the hard drives.
Your cpu and video card are both good for any future games (even HL2), and in RAID 0, your performance will increase nicely.
