Does anyone know if a Pentium 2.4ghz 800mhz bus processor would be able to run on a motherboard with a maximum capability of 533mhz? I know I woudn't be able to utilize hyperthreading but I would prefer to buy the 800mhz since I could possibly use it at a later date in a mobo that supports the new 800mhz bus. My concern is can I run the cpu at a reduced speed of 533mhz even though the cpu is suppose to run at 800mhz?

It'll work fine, if the board supports undervolting you can run extremely cool that way too. What board is it?

BIOS 1.04 for that cube say it adds support for the 3.06 HT so if you flash it you will have HT support after all :sun:

My God it would run slow as hell. The 2.4C has a multiplier of only 12x, therefore, at 533 fsb it would only be running at ~1600MHz.

Thanks for the info on the bios upgrade, don't know how I missed that. Now to find a good price on a P4 2.4C.

12 x 133 is right...

uhh... you sure you wanna run it only at 1.6 ghz?

or maybe you can o/c the fsb higher .... oh well.. .

Hey, I have an idea. I have a 2.4B here that does 3.0 Ghz with good cooling. How about I trade ya this chip for a 2.4C, and maybe I'll even throw in a couple bucks?

I'd say be careful !!. There's a post over at ARS of a very similar issue, the mobo does not support 800 mhz and won't detect the cpu at 533 mhz. It defaults to some really slow FSB which can't be changed. If your mobo has jumpers that can force 533 mhz then you could be OK.
