Hi all from a forum newbie. Have seen some discussion on P4 prescott temps - here's my experience:
P4 540J 3.2GHz 800 MHz FSB on an MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum mobo (not oc'd) in a Thermaltake Tsunami Mid ATX case (no window) with 2 stock 120mm fans. Replaced Intel stock fan/heatsink with an Artic Cooling Freezer7.

This CPU definitely runs warm, even at idle. Had been seeing 50-55 C and last night I was looking at 60 - 63 C. (System temp not too bad at around 40 C). It's summer and the room was warmer (no a/c). The processor datasheet (there's a lot of details, but generally...) shows a max case temp of about 68 C. The CPU has Thermal Monitors which are supposed to reduce power consumtion/operating freq/voltage as needed if temps exceed maximum although I don't want to get there. Have noticed no adverse effects in operation at the temps I'm seeing, but Intel says we wouldn't notice anyhow.

I'm going to replace the stock case fans with 96 CFM models to move more air through the case - hope that lowers temps a bit. Would have thought the freezer7 would help more - and yes - pretty sure it's installed properly, thermal paste and all. Only been about 15 hours though - maybe it'll settle in??

Is anyone/everyone seeing temps like these? I'm happy with the proceesor - works very well for me - guess we live with these temps (??), but will work to get them lower.
