what's the best thing under 50 bucks that i can buy to keep my processor cool, i have it set to shut down when it gets to 70C and it's only just started shutting down recently while playing games. i have a lian li case but it's all messed up lol, i dropped the hell out of it while moving but only the shell of the case(window) is broken out. so basically I just need raw cooling power I guess. Here is my proc specs and all that. I saw the scythe ninja or something, looked cool but maybe there is better? if so let me know

Field Value
CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 3000 MHz (15 x 200)

CPU Alias Northwood HyperThreading

Package Type 478 Pin uPGA

Motherboard ID 12/28/2004-i875P-W83627H-6A79BA19C-28

Motherboard Name Abit IC7-G

this is a computer i've been upgrading for years gradually, i don't want to spend a crapload on it cause eventually i want to get a top of the line comp whenever a game that doesn't suck comes out

thanks if you can help

Scythe Ninja is the way to go. I have the Zalman 9500, great cooler, but I would have bought the Ninja if it was compatible with my motherboard. Yours should be fine.

Freezer 4: Cheaper.
SI-120: Lower profile (safer if moving your rig around a lot).
Zalman 9500: Prettier.

Overall though you're going to get the best cooling/sound ratio from the Ninja. Read the Heatsink Reviews thread at the top of the Cases and Cooling category and make your own decision.

EDIT: If you're planning on upgrading, you should be able to port any of these coolers over to your new motherboard. Make sure you keep all the extra mounting parts.

Is that a Northwood core P4 3.0c?

I had one of those and it ran very cool with a Zalman CNPS-7000B AlCu with the fan at 5V (with it's integrated heat spreader, I got the impression that this Northwood core cpu wasn't too difficult to cool if you are not overclocking)

Have you tried reseating the heatsink and / or reapplying thermal grease?

Also, is your system completely stable (eg. Prime95) despite those high mobo readings? (if it's Prime95 stable, mobo thermal temp readings just may not be accurate).

Prime95 for cpu thermal stressing
