The presscots get that hot. You can say that this temperature is "normal" on those processors. Sorry:(

does prescotts really get that hot when it's idling?! i'm searching through the forum and i see that other prescott owners have temps at around 75C when it's LOADING..

so why is my prescott this high when it's only idling?

also, i used to have the regular intel heatsink which gave me the same temp. i now am using a zalman heatsink.

what is your ambient temp? my 3.0E (p4p800) idles between 41-44C depending on room temp w/ stock cooling. it gets up to high 50's while playing FarCry (most taxing application i run)...

All the ABIT IC7 boards are a good 5 to 10 degrees high. Still, 70 seems pretty crazy to me. You might want to redo your heatsink installation to be sure you don't have too much thermal compound on there (unless you're using the stock heat pad... then I have no idea.)
