I currently have a P4 3.2E,

My brother wants to upgrade is computer so ill be taking my cpu since he dont O/C and my current 3.2E is not much of an overclocker.

For this he will buy me a 3.2 P4, Wich bring my question :

3.2C or 3.2E ? Wich is more likely to hit 4.0ghz ?

3.2e. Yeah they run warmer, so get a good heatsink, you won't hit 4Ghz on stock heat sink anyway...

You will be needing watercooling to take it tio 4GHZ due to the great amount of heat it would generate. It is not enough a heatsink.

3.2E should overclock better than the Northwood core. Heat will be an issue but with a good cooler you should be good. 3.8+ isn't out of the question. Northwoods have a harder time getting past 3.7. Considering prescott is faster than Northwood past 3.6ghz and comes with SSE3 instructions it's a better processor once you start getting into those speeds.

You just know someone's going to say " AXP-M 2500+, there a great overclocker!"..

To be honest, its not worth the bother trying to get from 3.2 to 4 Ghz, the water cooling set up etc. The price :performance isnt worth it all. IMO it would be more wise ( if your borther wants more performance) to switch to AMD.

To be honest I think a 3.2 P4 is fine anyhow for a good while.

Hmm. AMD is out of the question. I currently have a P4 board, I dont want to change everything yet.

So , P4 Socket478 is my option right now. 3.2C or 3.2E

If I go with either C or E, wich stepping - sSpec number should I look for.

BS ;) i downloaded a 638mg file, burned a dvd and played hl/2 at 1280 x 960 maxed out and got an average of 100+ fps. try doing that on your amd.
