I am getting ready to build only my second PC and I have always stuck with Intel Processors with either built or purchased Comps. The last time I upgraded was around 6-7 years ago (no laughing) before AMD was really a threat. So now I am faced with the dilemma, Do I stick with Intel or do I venture into the AMD world?
I need some informative opinions.
I will be using the comp for gaming, audio/video recording (limited) and some financial programs.
Speed really only matters to me when gaming, and that seems to be where AMD is generally better than Intel, but I haven't seen any benchmarks of these two against each other. (give me a link if you know of any)
One thing I noticed on the AMD mobos, is the lack of 4 Memory banks, they only have 3. Why did they do this, does it matter, or does it just mean I need to buy higher memory pairs?
These two CPUs are virtually the same price and about as high as I want to pay.
Also is the performance difference worth the price difference between the 2.8C & 3.0C or 2800+ & 3000+??
Sorry so lengthy am pretty much stupid on this stuff again. lol

THANKS

I would go with either a 3000+ or 2800+ Athlon64. I voted 3000+ as I have not seen any reviews of the 2800+ yet, but if it can be had for $180 range then maybe go with that.
Get a single slab of 512mg PC3200 ram and a 9800 Radeon video card and a good board that has some features you like and be ready to rock.

2800 if you can overclock it, as the clock speed of it seems a bit low...3000+ if you can afford it
