P4 3.06ht vs i3 530 for 24/7 use

My old P4 2.6Ghz used around 80 watts idle and the i3 530 I replaced it with uses around 34 watts idle with integrated video. If you add a discreet video card it will obviously increase the total wattage of the i3, but a low powered card like an ATI 5770 it might only add ~15 watts at idle.

How did you measure the idle watts? What did you use?

Used a killawatt which are like $20 bucks at newegg. I'm not going to argue about the accuracy of the device, as I know it's not dead on, but it's close enough.
