I want to buy one 3.06 P4 and want to know is good for overclocking.
I will have air cooler and want to know how much will can overclock with air cool.
I have now 2.4 @ 2970 C1 with air cooler at default voltage 1.525 (standard BOX cooler)
So, can anyone can tell me how much I can expect MHz of 3.06 with BOX cooler.

Than'x

imo the latest rage among the P4 overclockers are the D1 steppings-the ones with the 800MHz FSB
some guy got his to 3.8GHz aircooled

this doesn't make any sense... why would you buy the top-on-the-line and overclock it to void its warranty? screw around with lower clocks or if you are serious about overclocking, buy an AMD chip.

I haven't heard any great things about o/c's from a 3.06.

I'd go for one of those nifty D1 3.0's if ya wanna upgrade.

Hi, to answer your question, I can tell you what I've seen from my experiences with the P4 3.06's.

My friend has his on an Exos at 3.4, I have mine on a regular koolance case at 3.5. Temps for both of us max out at about 44-45C under full 100% load (that would be prime95 & seti & 3dmark all running at the same time).

I would figure that on regular air and not high end air you'd probably get just a tad lower than this. both of us run 1.625vcore. Hope this helps.

if you have phase change cooling (Prometiea or Vapochill), then a 3.06 is a worthwhile purchase, otherwise you can do just as well aircooled with a 2.53B mulitVID stepping P4 (like I have in my sig).

WTF? On the contrary, if you were serious about overclocking you'd go with a 3.06 P4. If someone can do 3.5-3.8GHz aircooled, I'd say that is reason enough to overclock a 3.06GHz P4. ;) Some people are into overclocking to get a nice "bang for your buck" by buying a cheaper CPU. However, there are those that overclock to get the most power a PC can dish out. I'm the second type of person. ;)
