p4 3.06 ghz and blue screen of death

Hello everyone. When I use the pentium 3.06 ghz chip, my computer frequently shows the blue screen of death.
My computer will run perfect with a pentium 2.6 chip, but as soon as I put in the 3 gig, I get the blue screens (with
various errors).
The power supply is not the problem, for it is designed for a 3 gig processor. I am wondering if it is the processor
fan. The fan is a thermaltake (designed for pentium 2.4 I think). Does anybody know what the problem is?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!😕

Well, not even the lead Pentium 4 design engineer would KNOW what the problem is just from your description. Maybe it's the motherboard's support for HT. You ARE using Windows XP, right? or Windows 2k?

It could be a bad CPU even. If you can figure out a way to do it, try a DIFFERENT 3.06 in there to verify that.

Mobo?
Memory?
Possible ya current mobo cannot handle your 3 gig beast?

Need more info for anyone to consider helping .

If the bIOS sees it fine and the system posts I would suspect a bad CPU. Iintel has a 3 year warranty on boxed CPUs are good about RMAs
