p4 3.06 ghz and blue screen of death

Hello everyone. When I use the pentium 3.06 ghz chip, my computer frequently shows the blue screen of death.
My computer will run perfect with a pentium 2.6 chip, but as soon as I put in the 3 gig, I get the blue screens (with
various errors).
The power supply is not the problem, for it is designed for a 3 gig processor. I am wondering if it is the processor
fan. The fan is a thermaltake (designed for pentium 2.4 I think). Does anybody know what the problem is?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

What are your temperatures? Download a program like Motherboard Monitor 5 to check to see what the temperature of your processor is. It is possible that you are overheating. Telling people the specific heatsink and fan might be of a bit of help as well.

Also, just because your power supply says it is designed for a 3GHz processor doesn't mean it isn't the problem. What PSU is it? It is possible you are drawing too much power with other things like hard drives. Motherboard monitor will also tell you the voltages your PSU is putting out. The voltages should not be more than 5% off.

He just joined...let him be. FYI sumyungguy crossposting, posting the same thread in multiple forums, is considered bad. One reason is that it can cause confusion between you and people trying to help you. Try posting in only one forum, if you find out it is the wrong forum for the post or you are not getting any responses after a day or so, try a different forum.
