how do I find out when a 3.06 GHz 533MHz P4 has Hyper Threading support or not.
Intel made both, and I need to know which is the HT one to buy the right one for an upgrade? (I need the 533 HT 3.06 in socket 478.)
do I look for a particular # like SL6PG SL6S5? or an L2 cache or ?

thanks y'all

If you have the processor information and model number, google it and find out. or take a chance and buy the computer, then check in the bios. HT makes a big difference for multitaksing.

I think the first 3.06 desktops were non HT, then they brought out HT, the fastest of which in 533 was 3.06. Then they moved on up to 800MHz.

The Mobile ones are different I believe. either way, when you are dealing with a pulled chip, how do you tell if its one or the other?

is there an i.d. code or how do I tell if its a later HT one or an earlier non HT one?

t.i.a.

All the 3.06ghz P4's have hyperthreading. It was the first P4 with hyperthreading, and the only one on the 533mhz FSB that has it.

there's definitely HT and non HT ones out there... take a look on EBay.
(and I dont mean mobile versus non mobile)

of course not obiwan, its just they list some as "HT enabled" and others are listed as this "does not have HT"
oh well. maybe you are right and all (non mobile) ones are HT.
in that case how do I tell a pulled mobile chip from a non mobile one?

Odd, very odd... when the 3.06 was first released it ONLY came with HT, it was THE FIRST chip to have HT. I bought a couple of those along with some Asus P4G8X motherboards... ah those were the days.

I've never heard of a non-HT 3.06, because after that chip they moved to 800mhz FSB and they started releasing non decimal chips only like 3.0, 3.2, etc.

All desktop 3.06Ghz P4's have HT as far as I know.

The Sspec is a sure way to look up the chip and find out about it. You can look it up at Intel.

Of course, a lappy could have a desktop chip in it.

There are mobile 3.06's with HT such as SL77P Northwood & SL7DT Prescott
Then there is SL726 Northwood, which does not have HT.

Why not just buy like a 3.0C? It has an 800MHz FSB, but you could always just drop the bus down to 533MHz, or overclock. But it definitely has hyperthreading. I imagine 3.0Cs would be easier to find than 3.06's, anyway.
