P4 3.0 Glitch is a pricing problem??? -

What's that ? Sounds plausible, but it's not something that hasn't happened before. Top notch P3s were selling for double what the low end but still higher clocked P4s for a long time, and still do. It's not like someone with a 800 FSB chip would always be able to run in a 533 FSB motherboard socket (well, not with official Intel support), so I really hope this isn't the actual reason for pulling it.

Mike had been gaining some credibility with me recently but this sets him back to the time that he announced we'd taped out a chip that I was working on about a year before the real tape-out. This is about the silliest thing that he's written in a good long while.

As if pricing information isn't available to OEM's months in advance, as if the accountants are intimately aware of the nuances of pricing, it's affect on the market and the impact on the bottom line. Mike expects people to believe that this pricing went out the door, no one within Intel looked at it for months, and then said "Doh!" and with a slap to the forehead, "we'd better fake a recall. These prices are too low." Uh huh. Sure.

maybe they don't want to start hysteria over something that could turn out to be a non-problem?

P4's at 800fsb were supposed to settle down to lower price levels than their 533fsb counterparts, BUT not launch that way.

As loosely run as Intel is becoming its no surprise this could happen.

I'm not sure what else to say besides

Oh, I see... If the fine people at theinquirer can't find it, then it MUST not exist.... As if they have a clue as to what it might be, or where to begin looking.

So, Wingz, does not every NEW Intel architecture eventually beat the previous in price as soon as they ramp to full production? The 533fsb chips at 2.4GHz were cheaper than the 400fsb chips not long after the 533fsb chips were introduced. I figure Intel will use $5-10 per processor to entice people into new 800fsb chips BECAUSE it also means more chipset sales for Intel. This is the way they've always done it in the past.

I just noticed that Dell has re-posted their Canterwood 875 based model 8300 Dimension - but with the 3.06 P4 and 533 front side bus setting. This may be a bad sign for the 3.0C.

Not wanting to put words in Wingz mouth, but a hint might be the "As loosely run as Intel is becoming its no surprise this could happen." comment from you.

It's pretty much just that the whole concept is so ridiculous, that I simply don't know how to rationally respond to it. I'm just not sure what I can add to what's already been said, to bring to light how silly it all is.
