I have a Abit TH7 II with a 1.8 P4 right now, but I bought a P4 2.8 and was thinking about a new motherboard. I`m just not sure which one to go with. The 8IEXP looks good for a DDR board, mabey the 8IXP for a rambus board? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I`m still reading up on other boards. Thanks in advance :)

Edit: Also looking at the Asus P4S8X ,with 8x agp.

Edit: I`m looking seriously at the gigabyte 8IHXP.From what I read, samsung is the rambus to go with.Any suggestions as to where to purchase 2--256 peices of pc1066? I have 2 corsair 256mb pc800 now,but if the pc1066 make a pretty good difference, i`d get it.

I have a P4B533 and have my 1.8a @ 2.4 default voltage/retail hs

I haven't even begun to try and overclock this chip. The markings are SL63X Malay. It should be able to get up around 2.8 or higher according to Overclockers.com database.

So, my vote is for the Asus P4B533.......

What vid card are you running right now?

Nice choice on the board IMO. ;)

Now... as for that RAM. From what I've seen, Samsung doesn't make 256MB sticks of PC1066 -- or at least, they're not easily obtainable. They do make 256MB of RIMM-4200s, but that's an entirely different beast. Anyways, I'd recommend Kingston RAM; I haven't had any problems with it thus far.

Newegg sells it, but it's ECC, so I would take a look at:

Googlegear for $143
Or if you prefer Mushkin branded Kingston: Mushkin for $189

Hope that helps. :)

I'll be getting the GA-8IHXP2 tomorrow! Actually, I'll be getting the GA-8IHXP and GA-8IHXP2. I'm going to send the GA-8IHXP back.

I must have got the last two sticks of Kingston 256MB Non-ECC PC1066 RDRAM because they had it yesterday and now it's gone and they don't even have a auto-notify for it anymore. Anyway, you could always go with four sticks of 128MB if you never plan on going higher then 512MB.

BTW, I'd stay away from the P4S8X. I've been there, done that and it wasn't pretty.

I talked to a gigabyte tech yesterday and he said there is no new version. He will look at the Newegg site to see whats up.
Also I just received my 8IXHP and it has VER 2.1 on it and the creative sound chip.
Won't get to try it out until FRI or Sat (Sweet party to go to tonite HOT babes!)
Anyway another question. I bought some Rdram for Memorysuppliers. The are actually PC800 certified for PC1066. Before I start... how can I overclock these to 1066. I made a bad mistake of not checking Memorysuppliers out first but found out they are very shady. They shipped fast and communicated well untill I complained about their advertisement of Samsung PC 1066 and I received PC800 certified to 1066.

nicebutt,
Return that "bullshit 1066 rdram" memory immediately. Don't let Memorysuppliers screw you that way. Have your cc company put a stop on the charge transaction.

The only 16 bit TRUE 1066-32 rdram, currently available, is Kingston (Toshiba manu.), 128 & 256MB modules. I'm using 2X256 modules Kingston rdram 1066-32, with GA-8IHXP. The Kingston mem is ok for now, & this stable Gigabyte board ROCKS! When the real Samsung 16 bit rdram 1066 gets here, we'll see if that's really better. BTW, Corsair 16 bit 1066-32 rdram is also Kingston!

The NEW true 16 bit Samsung 1066-32 rdram is supposed to hit the market in the next 2 months. Newegg has the first offering of 128MB modules of this NEW 16 bit Samsung 1066-32 (code 9) I've seen, but it's OEM memory. The Samsung part number must end in 9xx, NOT 8xx.

Certain vendors are still selling 1066 rdram, that's really rdram 800. "Certified to run at 1066" is NOT the same as true 1066 rdram memory. (Some rdram 800 will OC to 1100 or more.)

cookj,
My last board was an Abit TH7II, which I loved because it's a model of OCing stability & flexibility. I even changed to the TI-1066 drcgs on that board. Finally, realizing Abit was never going to produce a bios, where rdram 1066 could be reliably run or a TH7II-850E version, I moved on to the GA-8IHXP. The "fixed agp/pci" is about all that's missing, & that's really no big deal. It's possible a future bios upgrade will allow that too.

Currently, 8IHXP running 2.8@fsb150 (3150), 2X256 Kingston 1066-32 rdram, 4 scsi hdds, cd-rw, dvd-rom, Zalman AIR cool, Radeon 9700 Pro, SC sound, Networking using on board LAN (Realtek). Passes ALL 3DM & PCM2002 benches, very solid & stable.

Last 3DM, OCed cpu & Radeon.....17,444!

Sweet rig, Bellyofthebeast!!! :Q

But definitely, don't settle for o/c'd PC800... you won't be disappointed with this Kingston PC1066 and the 8IHXP! When you do get it up, FSB150 is a nice and attainable target. ;)

cookj,

The "K" refers to: Kingston, which you ordered. (I edited that post to avoid confusion.)

Please write back when you get your new 8IHXP system going, so we can all compare notes. Also, what PSU will you use, as that's important?

What CloudsShinji advised, i.e. don't use rdram 800, is excellent. There is no point having an 850E board with rdram 800.

Check what Rev. Kingston you get, e.g., A00 or A01. Some have reported better OC results with the A01 rev.

Since the Kingston rdram only has a "built-in" heat spreader on one side, I adapted a Thermaltake (p/nA1092) heatspreader kit to that memory. The metal spreaders can easily be bent to shape around module, so I used one on each side. Kit includes contact strips which hold the spreaders in place. Also, pointed fan, within case, toward mem slot area, to insure good mem cooling.

Thanks everyone and Bellyofthebeast for your input on the info of the overclocked pc800. I probably will send them back, but I have a question? If these could be overclocked how would I know the difference if I compared oc800's to actual pc1066? Naturally I would do some benchmarks to compare. We oc our CPUs why not the memory also? But as I write this I may have answred my question, I bet I'll have trouble achieving higher OC cpu and fsb.
Anyways my only hold up is I'm excited to start this upgrade and you can save about $100 on OC800s.
I'm still pissed too about I thought it was a good purchase and than I got these but if they work as PC1066 its ok . I guess is a roll of the dice.
I quess it would have been more acceptable if I knew they were oC800s.
