My REALLY Ghetto Case That I've Had For 6 Years.
My REALLY Ghetto Case That I've Had For 6 Years. #2

I've had that case since 1997, got that case when i bought my
PII-266. It has no cover, its just a skeleton with a powerhouse
P4-2.6c @ 3.11 Ghz in it. It's even got an old Matrox sticker on
it from one of the first AGP Matrox 8meg non-3d cards. 😀

It isn't ghetto if it works, IMHO. 🙂
Not a bad OC either. Try to disable game acceleration and see how much farther you can go, never know, but you just might get better performance.

I agree, turn off Game Accel (auto), and disable Command Per Clock\Read Delay Adjust.
I bet you will be able to overclock a bit more, and more mhz will give you more speed than game accel.

Holy Jesus, that IS a ghetto case! Damn! You've got some really nice components in there, why not get a nice case to go with it? 1997? I think it is time to move to something more...2003ish. 😉

I posted this yesterday in a different thread, but here is my info to compare.
I have to say though, running in Game Accelerator mode of F1 made a bigger improvement than getting more Mhz, out of either my CPU or Memory. I can send the chart of my endeavors if anyone is interested. I made a spreadsheet of my various attempts with results. May not help too much since I am using an "ES" model P4, but you never know. In any case, the best results were achieved with "F1" on and backing off the FSB 15Mhz.... Weird but true in my case...

Just posting results of my overclocking yesterday...

Highest stable speeds after running burn-in overnight...

2.66Ghz"B" "ES" on Abit IC7 (Corsair 3200 C2 XMS 512MB X 2)
WD Raptor 10000RPM SATA 36GB (X2) RAID 0

CPU : 3.2
Vcore : 1.8v
FSB : 200
Multiplier : 16
H/W Ratio : 1:1
PSB : 800
Vmem : 2.8
Mem Timings : 2-7-3-3
Mem Mode: "F1" (only applicable on ABIT boards)

Sisoft 2003 Results:
CPU Multi. : 12763/16205
CPU Arith. : 9107 & 1906/4165
Mem Score : 4952/4913

HDD Transfer :
108.5MB/s average sustained read
58.5MB/s average sustained write

3Dmark 2001 Build 330 Default settings on all
GeForce 4 Ti4200 @ 310/555 (About time for a video card I think)
14467

This configuration listed above resulted in the best scores after 34 different configuration attempts.

THanks for the tip, I could get my 2.8c to work at 3.28ghz with 1 stick of 512mb hyperx ram. But put both my sticks in, boot into windows and crashes in 5 min. Turned off the Command per clock, and it's working super stable now. Thanks.

I'm not running a standard benchmark, I'm running lightwave 3d, which renders images. But its the primary program i use and if it can go for hours with out crashing I'm happy, So far running for 2 hours. Going to let it test out.

Thanks, maybe I should mabye push it some more.

Only thing is my heat is 69c Very hot. Not sure what to do about it, got zalman 7000 alcu. Used artic silver. Maybe I put to much on.
Will clean with alcohol (70% proof) And redo, trying the stock cooler first. Don't know what went wrong there, other people saying they got 35-55c heat.

I have a 2.4C overclocked to 3.24. Loaded temps are:
39C system
59C cpu
54C PWM

I thought my first attempt at putting the heatsink went bad (heatsink turned a lot in the process) so I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and reapplied the AS3 and the zalman 7000alcu and temps dropped 0-1 degrees. not much. in your case I'd definately suggest a reapply. 69C is horrible.

Wow,

Thats a great o/c I am hoping to take mine up to 3.6 like some people I heard did, on air.
But I"m not going to try for a bit.

Thanks for the specs, I'll try to get it to that temp, Mabye I put to much artic silver, other posts, some people have implied that , that you can put to much. (ONly thing is I put about a grain of rice amount.) Next time I'm using half that. amount.

I think you get a lot more outta that setup!

Also, why did you increase your VAGP core to 1.6? default is at 1.5 right? What does the increase in VAGP do? Does it stablize your system? Cause i read in an article that after numerous tests they do not see why VAGP voltage needs to be adjusted if works already at its default speed.

VAGP is useful if u want higher AGP frequencies, higher processor clock speeds with sideband VGA cards. im not so sure about system stability. caution in increasing the VAGP is if ur PSU isn't sufficient, you may undervolt some critical components.

btw, onto ur 2.6C, could u try and bleed a 250fsb outa that cpu? at 3.25ghz it'll be a faster system that a game accelerated 3.11.
also try to reduce ur Vcore as much as possible.

i just ordered a 2.6C from newegg couple days ago...i'll post how far i got that

I beg to differ on that one. The small amount in CPU mhz will not come near giving the performance increase that using the Game Accelerator will. My 2.8c can do at least 250 fsb stable, and the memory scores were much higher at 1:1 and 215 fsb than they were at 250 1:1 and no gam accelerator. Now, that was a big enough difference in FSB to justify leaving it at 250, but in this case, going from 240fsb to 250 fsb would not be near the performance boost as using the GA.

i did actually have my 2.6c running at 250 fsb with game accel set to auto/normal/auto/disable/disable with a 3:2 ratio, 2-6-3-3 timings. It booted and ran games fine, but compared to a 3.11ghz/5:4 ratio/turbo-normal-auto-enable-enable settings, it performed like crap. Even though it was at 3.25ghz, it wasnt as fast as the 3.11 / 5:4 ratio with game accel enabled. The reason why its a lot slower is probly the ram speed. 3.25ghz 250fsb 3:4 ratio from what i remember gave mer 167 Mhz ram. The 3.11ghz 239 fsb 5:4 ratio gave me 191 Mhz ram. Scores in Sandra were a lot higher in the ram benchmarks, by alot.

So I hit 88 MPH in my DeLorean and posted in this thread, shame the picture URL's don't work anymore. Where the heck is my asian man avatar... 🙁
