P4 2.66 @ 3.4GHz air-cooled!

Link

If you are too lazy to read the article, the overclocking results are:

3.31GHz @ 1.67V
3.41GHz @ 1.8V (volt modded)
3.51GHz @ 1.85V (volt modded, not stable due to excess heat).

Testing was done on a Volcano 7+ on full speed, using an Abit BD7-II and OCZ PC3500 RAM. Not bad for an el cheapo V7+ methinks. Imagine the results using an Alpha PAL 8942/MCX4000!

The sweet spot looks to be 3.31GHz @ 1.67V to me. 3.41GHz @ 1.8V looks good, though personally I would never feed a Northwood P4 with more than 1.75V for prolonged use, just to be safe. Maybe just for bragging rights and a high 3DMark I would though... but not for long. 😉

Just for a bit of a twist, the guy got 3GHz @ 1.42V (undervolted by 0.1V!). Heh. That's pretty rare I gotta say, overclocking while undervolting in the process.

But hey, if you want a silent 3GHz system, thats what you gotta do. 😉

These 'C1' stepping P4s are starting to look good - now I'm just waiting for the prices to come down for a Christmas spending spree. 😀

I agree...lets get some 2.26b,2.4b and 2.53b chips with c1 tsepping and we can have 3ghz for 190-230 bucks.....

Likely did close to 3.34-3.35ghz with 1.7v which I view as safe and has benn running on my system for 3-1/2 months now flawlessly....

Im also waiting for more conclusive results on the C1 stepping before I take the plunge. Right now the 2.5 and 2.66 are on the top of my list.
