One of my kids currently has a P4 2.6Ghz machine. Perfect for homework (and I have gotten it to play Crysis on medium settings)

I can get a 3.0Ghz Prescott upgrade for $20. Not sure if it is worth the hassle. Is my kid going to see a lot more bang. Or nothing really.

Probably very little. A 20 dollar upgrade is cheap, but I don't think its really worth the effort.

you wont notice a difference.... i have an old P4 3.0 overclocked to 3.8Ghz and i really dont notice a difference... any of my newer machines seem 100% snappier even with CnQ enabled (4 cores at 800mhz)

save the 20$ and put it towards a cheap athlon II x2 mobo/ram - should be around 150$

If you have a Frys nearby get one of the x2 athlon combos for 50 bucks. The 5200 maj combo this weekend owns as well.

Waste of $20. I have done it because I had a Dell 2.66ghz and install a 3ghz from an old pc at work.
