UPDATE 3-23-03: Kiddie rig setup @3.42GHz, 180MHz FSB

Asus P4PE (non-RAID/SATA)
Corsair PC3000 (2.5-3-3-7)
PNY G4Ti4600
Antec TP 550W
Air cooled: Vantec Aerocooler

Folding@Home in progress, Load temps: 43C, Case temp: 30C, intending to go 6hours
Vcore: 1.55V (MBM)

I initially started FAH testing at 185FSB @1.65V and ended up here (and I'm not interested in pushing the Vcore either). Will be trying out some better RAM since I have come to the limit of the stick that's installed. As well may try my R9700 pro in there to see if that held me back the first time i tested this CPU. And when I really get bored will install my watercooling setup. Not bad for a mobo I had thought was not a good overclocking board.

UPDATE 3-22-03:
Tested this CPU in my mothballed Asus P4PE and right now have POSTed out to 195FSB at 1.62V....right now I'm loading up OS (thanks dbwillis!) and will be finding usable speed and will update progress. I am so stoked right now to say the least.

[Original test]

:Here is a specimen of the new class of multiple VID C1 steppings mentioned over at Overclockers.com.
Props to melon_stunner over there making the initial discovery of these things.

This is a first look to determine the limits of the CPU so the memory settings are relaxed.

Test CPU: 2.53B SL6S2 Malay Week 37 2002
Purchased at PC Club, Lynnwood, WA
default voltage: 1.525V

System:
GigaByte GA-8INXP, DPS in parallel mode
Watercooled: Innovatek Rev 3.0 P4 waterblock, Eheim 1250 Pump, Black-ICE Extreme radiator, 1/2 inch ID tubing
1x512MB Corsair PC3500
1x512MB Corsair PC3200
Memory set at SPD: Cas2-3-3-6
Tyan Tachyon Radeon 9700 Pro @stock settings
Antec True 550W PSU
WD80GB SE

3DMark2001SE Build 330 (all sliders on video card settings set for hi performance)
133 (2.53): 14301
140 (2.66): 15036
145 (2.76): 15419
150 (2.85): 16015
155 (2.95) : 16101
160 (3.04): 16279
165 (3.14): 16349
170 (3.23): 16490
175 (3.33): 16690, 17062 with memory set at C2-2-2-5

Notes and delusions:
1) all tests run at default voltage (1.58V in Easy Tune 4.0, 1.50V in MBM) except at 175 Mhz which was run at 1.61V
2) System reboots beyond 175MHz no matter how much voltage I give so I think I will have to rip out that DPS card to see if I can go higher. I seem to be hitting the same wall at 175MHz that I did with a 2.4B SL6EF that I tested previously...hmmm
3) May need to increase AGP voltage to 1.6V to see if it aids overclocking.
4) Folding@Home testing in progress at 173MHz. Current load temp=41C
5) I really need to get a copy of Q3A so I can do some timedemo fps measurements.

Its so late for me now, I'm sure I forgot some stuff but i'm counting on you guys to let me know about it. I'll do more tweaking tomorrow evening. G'nite.

this 175fsb wall on the 8inxp has been mentioned many times before ~ there's gotta be some truth to it.

I bet that a BIOS gets released right before the launch of the 800MHz CPUs or nothing happens so that they can make ya buy a Canterwood/Springdale board. I was hopeful of getting past this wall cuz a guy at the OC forums is running this same board stable at 185 and benchmark stable at 190 even. I guess i'm tired of that DPS LED now so off it'll go.

nice work:)! so what did it feel like when you saw 3335MHz at the POST, Windows initialization, and into the desktop;)? I like that feeling; it's how the vendors like Newegg and Googlegear end up with so much of my money:p!

I am just amazed at how far these things can go now on default voltage!!

There should be more stuff to choose from today as they told me they were getting in more stuff. Plan to drop by again tonight to see if there are some SL6RZ. Try and leave some for me OK?

Its great! But I feel a little suspicious though that the mobo is holding me back since I hit an abrupt wall FSB-wise and at the same place as a previous CPU I tested. At this point I'm thinking its the DPS card so I'm gonna rip it out as soon as I get home tonight.

you can read about it here. There should be other P4s showing up with default voltages of 1.475, 1.50, 1.525 and 1.55V. I understand that the voltages will not be stamped on the IHS anymore on the upcoming CPUs.

Guy over at Overclockers Forum got one of these from Outpost.com, which is Fry's online store. I couldn't resist and ordered one. No Fry's in Florida... Might be a way for those of us without Fry's to get in on this!

So I stopped in again at the store I got this winner looking for a 1.8AC1 or a 2.4B with the intent to purchase ONLY if the FPO/batch number indicated a 2003 manufacturing date but no joy. Didnt have any loose CPUs. for sale. Oh well.

So I decided to take out the DPS card but in doing so I noticed that two toroids by the CPU mount were very very close. I wonder if there is an arcing concern there and if it might be a sufficient reason to RMA this board.

So anyways, I jack up the front side bus and still hit the no POST wall at 180. I barely get a 3Dmark bench at 175Mhz, forget Folding@Home. Folding@Home load temp at 173MHz is 42C. Purty good.

Please excuse my ramblings.

So I install my SL6EF 2.4B in a GA-8IEXP (845E chipset) running Corsair PC3000 Platinum (SPD settings) and it hits the same wall as my 8INXP board at 175MHz. :disgust:. So I'm encouraged that my 8INXP is a not a limiting part in trying to reach 180/190 FSB. I just have to find that uber-chip that can hit 180 FSB.
rolleye.gif
. Might hit up Fry's in Portland next month after my vacation.

I prolly will try this 2.4B in my P4PE as well since I have enough parts laying around for my personal command center now just like this guy. . Gaming on this 8INXP board and netsurfing/DVD/CD ripping on the P4PE .

Man, it was cool to see effortless operation at 173MHz but now I wanna go to 180-190MHz. But hey, soon enough there'll be those 200MHz FSB CPUs but what fun is that running stock anyways.

Thanks for checking that out. I tried to call to see if they'd get some 2.26Bs in but the CSR told me they hadnt gotten any in months. Checking the website later in the day I see that they arent offering the 2.26B anymore and they're sold out of 2.4Bs. Looks like there's a run on these things now. Let us all know how it goes.

I registered at overclockers forum last night and they still haven't activated my account. :( I wanted to share some of this SL6S2 goodness with them over there.. I see you over there caboob. I just wanted to let everyone know these processors were available to those without a Fry's B&M in their neighborhood. :D

Running P95 for 2 hours @ 160fsb or 3040 MHz default voltage. Have the memory at spd while I test the CPU to see how far it can go. Going to test 165 for a bit...

Edit: Now running P95 @ 176fsb or 3343 MHz, default voltage. Not bad for a 2.53b. :D

Update: Ran P95 @ 178fsb for an hour while surfing and playing mp3's... Going to try 180fsb overnight..

176 MHz FSB on a P4PE? Very nice!! I have this board and thought it wasnt a very good overclocker.

New CPU in: 2.53B SL6S2 Week 48 2002 Malay. Will soon be seeing where this one goes in my "wife's" computer.
