I purchased a retail boxed P4 2.53Ghz but during startup, The startup window claims that my CPU is 1900MHz.
Why is this? I'm using P4G8X-DLX motherboard if this matters.

I'm currently building my PC for the first time in my life, so I don't really know too much technical stuff. Any kind of advice/help is appreciated.

Thank you 🙂

thanks thugsrook 🙂
By the way, is this common??

Sorry if my question seems so stupid to you guys, but I'm a newbie in pc building 🙂

I think most, if not all, boards do this when you install a new chip. It defaults to the very, very safe setting (100fsb) - which your case is 1.900GHz. As the master himself said, it's pretty common, so I wouldn't worry about it. 🙂

thanks guys!

Can you guys tell me where can I get a step by step guide to setup my bios to change the processor speed to 2.53GHz?

its simple, strat up yopur machine, rapidly push Delete, ill a menu comes up, and look around for a settign called CPU FSB or something similiar, set if from 100 to 133, and exit and save, and presto, it will be at 2.53 Ghz.

Wonderful, that doesn't sound too hard. I'm gonna try it after installing my XP.

Thanks a lot 🙂
