Hii Everyone, well I've had this P4 2.53, now it's strating to have some problems, I never monitored the TEmps before, but since it began Randomly restarting when playing Games like WoW- BF2 demo .... I'm monitoring it wiith " Speedfan 4.24 ", It's indicating Temps ranging From 40°-52° While IDle or Surfring.

And while Gaming , generally it's 65-75° and it restarts in about 10 minutes because it reaches 80 °. Soo I thought Unmount the CPU Fan and Heatsink And buy a Zalman 7000 CNPS 7000B, so I bought it, installed it, and The TEmps are exactly in the same RAnge.

For a Cold Start-up i'm directly @ 40° and it's still restart while gaming with temps of 75°
I never overclocked it, The "Speedfan 4.24 " is indicating

CPU fan : 2400 RPM ( i Set it manually too max )
Vcore1 : 1,50 v
Vcore2 : 1,78v
+3,3 v : 3,42 v
+5 v : 5,13
+12 v : 11,90 v
-12v : 0.72 v
-5v : -5,31 v
+5v : 5,11 v
vbat : 3,12v

So that's it, another Thing I tried was " Load FAilsafe Settings " In bios. When I do that a Virus Message pops up directly on Boot " before loading windows" saying : " Trend ChipAwayVirus has detected a boot virus on your Hard disk", If i reload " optimised Settings the message does not Appear. WTF is happening too my Pc *cryyyy*

Either your motherboard is reporting wrong temps (like my ABIT AV8), or it's really getting too hot because it takes almost 30 minutes of Prime95 + turn off CPU fan in order for my P4 2.8GHZ to get over 70C.

Have you tried to feel the actual heatsink while it is under load to see if it is hot? If it really is just reporting the tempurature wrong, the heatsink will be cool/little warm. If you are actually getting to 80C, the HS should be very hot (be careful). I can't imgine it actually being the CPU unless something is really messed up (with either the CPU or heatsinks).

What are your ambient temps? If it is really hot in your room, that may add to the problem. I doubt you have a 40C (104 F for us americans) room temps though!

Thx for the answers The Temps in my room are Fair 22-30 Max, the PC temp is 36, but if I put a Chart of the CPU temps, it fluctuates Alot between 45-65 for exemple, can it be that the software is reporting wrong Temps ? and if So why is the reboot occyring ?

I had the same prob:
Get some Arctic Silver 5 and get an Air Duster.... great stuff. Coupled with my 7700AlCu my temps (prescott) dropped by 10C and the noise levels were awesome.
Edit: By awesome I mean insanely quiet. You should be fine with the little twin bro, the 7000.

Sounds like an incorect thermal paste application.

Hints:
-----------
-Make sure there's no dust on the heatsink
-Buy 90% pure (or more) isopropol (rubbing)alchol, and get a bunch of Q-Tips (cotton swab thingys), and a lint-free cloth (major emphasis on lint-free)
-Take the hsf off.
-Start wiping the base of the hsf (with the qtips and the isopropol), and the heatspreader (silver thingy) of your CPU.... should trake you about 30 minutes for it to be nice and clean. Patience is required.
-Make sure that there is NO thermal compound left. So when you take your q-tips off make sure that by the time you're finished everything is 100% clean.
-Use the lint free cloth and remove any fibers on your cpu/hsf from the q-tips
-Whatever you do, don't put the base of the heatsink down on the table.... that only means more scratches + more dirt. If you have to, just leave it upside down.
-Get the arcic silver 5, drop a TINY DROP on the center of your core. See theinstructions on the arctic silver site for a demonstration.
-Mount the heatsink, twist it left/right a few times.
-Screw in the heatsink
-Important: Do NOT unscrew the hs and check if the thermal paste is on properly.. Doing this will introduce air into the thermal compound and your temps will be fubar'd.
-Prime it for 3-4 hours (or more if you want). Shut it off for a few hours. Then start using it. You won't see a major difference in temps until after a few days. It should start slowly decreasing (it'll be noticible).
------

Being a prescott owner it SUCKS having to cool this soab. So here's my hints.
-TPG

Also... while you're at it, just underclock if you need to use the computer. Itwon'tmake that much of a difference in temps if you don't undervolt as well.

if your room is too hot it might restart. try cleaning the case or get better air flow. more case fans maybe... at least for the summer.

Is it a prescott or northwood?

Prescott: You're looking at low 40's at idle (if you're lucky, then maybe high 30's) and mid to high 50's at load, maybe low 60s.
My temps (3.0 prescott) - 43 Idle, 58 load
Northwood: Mid to high 30's idle. I'd say mid to low 50s load.

Btw, use CPU-Z to tell if you have a Northwood or Prescott.
Judging from the info you pasted above:
"Vcore1 : 1,50 v
Vcore2 : 1,78v "

I think you have a northwood. But I'm really not sure waht VCore2 is....

A 2.53GHz P4 is definately a Northwood.

Yep it's a Northwood indeed-Well now after 2 days of installing the Zalman ( whithout the thourough Cleaning ) the temps dropped down a little they look pretty much like the Temps on your Prescot Pentium Guy, Idle 39-43 Load 60-65. But still i'll unmount the HS, do the cleaning Stuff it's better. Thanks alot again
