P4 2.4Ghz CPU/Mobo Sys Just Died. What Are Best Overclockable CPU/Mobo Options Now???

Looks like my system just died...a P4 2.4 Ghz CPU overclocked to 3.0 Ghz on an Asus mobo. I have standard DDR ram.

For an overclocker looking for most "bang" for the buck, what are my best options, keeping in mind I do not want to uneccesarily replace all my components from my ~2 yr old system.

Sounds like everyone is hot on Core 2 duo. What is the most overclockable and stable CPU & mobo combination?

Also, based on the best CPU/mobo recommendation, will I need new RAM? If so, what are some good recommendations (amount, brand, timings, etc.)?
