I want to start by thanking everyone for their help getting my system going.......especially duvie for answering my noob questions about OC'ing. Ok, I OC'ed to 2.61GHZ (1.575Vcore) and have questions about temperature before I go any higher. At this speed my CPU temp is 38C idle / 46C loaded. I'm using a Vantech Aeroflow HSF with copper core and 5400 rpm fan. My question is, what is considered too high of a temperature for the 2.4GHz P4? I looked on the intel website and found some information but not sure if what I found is what I'm looking for. I was looking at the datasheet for the 2.4 and the only mention of temperature is Tcase. The maximum Tcase listed for the P4 is 70C. But, that seems way too high for an operating temperature!!!!

Another question:

For those of you the have this mobo. The CPU and System temp seem to be mixed up in the BIOS. My CPU temp is always lower than my system temp. Has anyone contacted Albatron about this? I assume the temps are backwards because CPU temp is almost always higher than system temp.

Yet Another Question from the noob:
How do I update the BIOS? checked Albatron website and instructions are weak. It says I need to know the model number and revision number of the mobo and need to have a blank boot floppy. What's the revision number? And if the floppy is blank how can it be a boot floppy? Am I confused or something.

wow, that's alot of noobish nonsense for you all to ponder. Thank you for your help

The temp readings on this board are funky at best. From what I can tell, there is no case temp. System temp I thiink is chipset or NB temp. The CPU temp seems to read pretty low as well. In MBM5, I'm trying a new setup for CPU temp. Try this out. Add WinBond 2 Diode as a sensor and add +15C of compensation to it. This seems pretty close.

To upgarde the bios, download version 1.08. It has the flash utility included. Make a bootable floppy and put the flash util and bios on it. Boot off the floppy and run the flash utility.

I'm running a P4B533-E basiclly same chipset. Got my 2.4b bumped to 2.53mhz. Temp at 32c /74f. you shouldn't have too much problem.

.

Thanks. How did you come up with the 15C offset?

I saw it on another forum. I think it should be more like +20. It does seem like the CPU sensor. Temps react much quicker to CPU load than the other ones.

On my 845PEV Pro,
I made the mistake of thinking system WAS cpu. Later I found out that when I added a TEC to the CPU, the CPU temp dropped to -1C with 5C chilled water, so it seems accurate. But when aircooled it read 30-35C which seemed low...especially for 1.85v ;)

Ok, I made a boot floppy and put the flash utility and .bin files on it. Booted into DOS and ran the flash utility and it didn't work. Got an error: "Error reading from Drive" or something like that. I know the floppy works because I can read and write to it, plus its new.

Here is exactly what I did:
Got a fresh floppy.
Made boot disk by right clicking on floppy in explorer and selecting format.
When format dialog pops up I chose :creat MS-DOS boot disk.
Added the flash utility and .bin files from Albatron.
Booted from the floppy.
After boot into DOS I typed(at the a:\ prompt): awdflash.exe<------this is name of flash file
This is where I get the read error.

Am I doing something wrong?

I have this exact MB combo. 2.4b SL6RZ, Corsair 512mb XMS3200LL, Alpha 8945, 9700 AIW, dual WD Special Ed 120GB

I am running 2.4b SL6RZ at 3240 (180*18), Vcore 1.525, Alpha 8945 - idle 33C/load 52C. Your temps seem OK.

I have not had any problems flashing the BIOS. I just create a boot disk w/ system files, copy flash and bin files...

Good Luck on your set-up...
