I am going to be buying a new pc soon, and i have all the hardware set except for the cpu. An Abit IS7-E, Corsair XMS 3200 2x256, Allied 450 PSU, SLK-900U Heatsink and a Thermatake SmartCase Fan II. The 2.4c is about $50 cheaper then the 2.6c, but also 200mhz slower. Both can be oc'ed easily over 3.0ghz, but for bang for the buck, which cpu should I go with? I'm looking to at least hit 3.3ghz. That is my goal, and thats what i plan on keeping it at as long as its stable. Ive read in many articles that it just depends on the setup and luck of the chip you get, either it be a 2.4c or a 2.6c, it could reach up to a 1ghz overclock. I read an article that was from OCAddiction.com where they had gotten a 2.6c completely stable at 3.3ghz. A 700mhz overclock with STOCK cooling, heres a link to the article: http://www.ocaddiction.com/reviews/cpu/intel_2600c/
The plus side to going with the 2.4c is that it can reach a higher fsb, which gives better performance. The plus side to the 2.6c is that it has a higher multiplier, so stability can be better than the 2.4c. So its almost a win win situation with either chip, they both can reach insane overclock peaks, but i guess it comes down to the going with a higher fsb, or a higher multiplier.
If you guy could post results/benchmarks/links to any information based on these two cpu's, id surely appreciate it. Thanks.

if u really want to hit 3.3, i would get the 2.6c as your chances are easier. with the 2.6c you would need a 254 fsb to hit 3.3, while with the 2.4, you would need a 275 fsb. so ur chances are better with the 2.6c.

Unless you are Ocing, it really comes down to, do you want a little more speed and FPS for $50 or not. And personaly, I wouldnt get that IS7-E. That is like the cheapest basic board on the market. You might as well get the IS7, as it is about $5 more and has many more things.

My 2.6 with an SLK-900U on a P4P800 doesn't seem to want to go over 3.4ghz. If you want to ensure you get 3.2-3.3 clock speeds I would personally opt for the 2.6, it's a bit safer bet incase your particular CPU doesn't like higher FSBs. Also figure out where your RAM is going to be running and make sure it can handle that memory clock without going to really lose settings.
