P4 2.4C vs A64 3000+(939)

So I have just enough parts to make one entire computer. It will be used exclusively for running ProTools LE with an Mbox at my band's practice space so we can have something to record to when we're writing songs and such. Now, I need to know which one is going to be faster, the systems will have the same parts except CPU and motherboard. I do want to be able to run enough tracks and be able to do quite a bit of editing, even though I already have a much better ProTools system at home.

I have a 2.4C HT Pentium 4 with an Albatron i915 motherboard that has PCIe
Athlon64 3000+ with a Jetway nForce4 SLI motherboard
I'll be upgrading my current graphics card, so this system will get my Radeon X1800XT 512MB
1GB (2x512MB) OCZ Platinum 2.5-3-3-7
and a few HDDs and ODDs

I'd recommend using the A64 3000, because you'll be able to overclock it considerably, on the motherboard you have for it. I mean, it's slightly faster than the 2.4C at stock speed, but if you overclock it, it would blow away the 2.4C, since that 915 chipset board isn't going to help you overclock the P4, from what I remember.

I forgot to say that I didn't know if I wanted to overclock. I only have stock HSFs for both of these, so I don't even know how far they would go. Also, I really want a stable system.

Yeah, IIRC that 2.4C was a little faster than an Athlon XP 2500, which would be pretty outclassed by an A64 3000; an A64 3000 would, again IIRC, usually outclass an XP 3200 (which was the same as the 2500 only about 375MHz faster).

I got a 3000+ venice running at 2400, on stock hsf, just lower the hypertransport multiplier to 3-4. Assuming you have ddr400 ram, you prolly have to use a memory divider, then you crank up the fsb to 270, and you got 2.4ghz, and it shouldnt run hot, at all, assuming ambient is around 20 degrees celsius. The mobo the venice is in craps out at 270 btw, but I've seen people do 2.7ghz with a 3000+ venice. 2.4ghz is a pretty safe overclock though, and should get you a nice performance boost. Especially over that intel cpu.

Go with the A64 3000+. I have a 2.4c that I'm about to retire; I love it, but it isn't as good as the 3000+.
