Ok, having so many choices.. and being an amd fanboy, I want to justify getting
an XP-M 2500+ and overcloing it for my two matx sff that am building...

But the 2.4C seems like a beter value, all other components aside, the price difference of the 2.4C
seems small, and it pretty much seems to be a better overall processor ( gaming, encoding,
compiling, 3D apps )

Suggestions? 2.8C?

You might get 3-3.3 ghz out of that 2.4C...assuming it's an M0 which it very possibly isn't. That's also assuming you have a good board that can handle ~300 fsb.

I'd go with a 35-watt XP-M 2200. It'll set you back a measly $77...compared to maybe $150+ for the P4. Hell you could buy 2 Bartons for the price of the P4. I'd be shocked if you didn't get 2.4 ghz out of the Barton.

Another thing to think about is that a good P4 board (IC7 or P4C800) will cost ~$40-50 more as well...and you'll need a good board to hit 300 fsb.

As you can see from my sig I basically have similar setups...and I'll tell you that my Barton at 2.4 ghz beats the P4 in every gaming benchmark just about. The P4 does make up for it in encoding...but you'd be really lucky to hit 3.5 ghz w/ a 2.4C anyways...and the extra cost just isn't justifiable for me atleast.

what if I went 2.8C, it seems that that would not require such a great board..

am goign matx, so I'll need an $80 board for the XP-M

Make sure you can find a good p4 mATX mobo that supports overclocking if you go the p4 route. I had a hard time finding a mATX p4 mobo with a working AGP/PCI lock. On the other hand, I don't know too much about AMD mobos, especially mATX ones and whether they have PCI/AGP locks or not. Since you are building two, why not get one of each and compare? Then you can keep one of each or sell one and get two of the same.

i use a ga8100mk from gigabyte in my matx box. at default vcore (1.525) i get 3.1ghz before i have instability. To cool it I use a zalman 6500cu and a 120mm fan directly above n my lianli pc9300

"But the 2.4C seems like a beter value" Bwhahahaaa LMAO this morning thanks:D

Listen to charloscarlies.

Northwoods kick ass but nothing can touch a mobile bartons price to performance ratio but a $44 Duron.

That 2.4 has had some incredible FSB OCs. Its probably one of the best FSB OCing chips there is. HOwever it comes with a price premium. If you get all really expensive componenets than that thing can reach amazing FSB's.

Also if you have that much money get a Prescott slap some phase change or liquid hydrogen cooling on it and get it up to like 5ghz. But most people cant afford all that.
