Wich is " faster", I know that is a generic term but what do you guys think?

They are both Dell's with the 9700tx the one with rdram is the 8250 and the ddr is 4550.

well it depends on the motherboard.
If you get a good mobo with dual channel ddr then it will be almost as fast as the rdram system
i have a dual channel ddr mobo on my rig and am very happy with it :)

256 Meg of ram is kind of light. 512 is really pretty standard these days. The PE board is SC DDR333 which is pretty decent. Can you bump the RDRAM to 512?

If it's running Windows XP then I would chose the one with 640megs of ram,it dont mater how fast the rambus ram is,if there's not enough of it it will slow things down quite a bit.

if its an 845 then it definately isnt dual channel ddr as the only dual channel ddr mobos out now are the granit bay and the new sis chipset (atleast for p4)

definately go with the ddr one if you plan on overclocking or running windows xp as rdram doesnt overclock very well and windows xp runs a lot better on systems with greater than 256mb ram

as i said earlier i am very happy with my rig
as you can see below it uses ddr and a 2.66 p4

Yeah for $160, me and my brother-in-law were just comparing rigs, and he thought his was better because of the rdram and I didn't see it that way especially with a faster cpu and additional ram.

So did you go with the 3500 so you could overclock it?

Budmantom,

Why don't you and your brother run a couple of benchmarks(3dmark, sisoft memory, etc) and then you can tell us which is faster ? I think it would be interesting.

This has been beaten to death but in past reviews that had same speed cpus with pc800, pc1066 and pc2700 ddr the rdram won in most all tests but it varied from 3 to 8 percent at same clock speed with the 29% gain in synthetic bences like sissoft thrown out for obvious (to all non-morons) reasons....

That being said even if you go the 8% advantage the 260mhz or +11% gain in clockspeed conteracts that and make it neglible. Now toss in the more then 256mb of ram wihich xp likes more and it probably is safe to say the p4 2.66 w/ the more pc2700ddr is faster in most things...

I have seen those reviews a while back but I can't find them now, thanks for the insight Duvie.

Will do (when I receive my computer), the one that interests me is 3dmark.
