Hey guys just wondering what temps you guys are getting...i didn't expect a jump of 25C!

The last CPU i ran was a 1.8A@2.4 and the temps only got into the low 50s

my current P4 2.4B is running 64-65C after running Prime95 for a hour.

Have an Alpha 8942 w/ Thermaltake Smartfan II running at 3000RPM about 30CFM w/ a one exhaust
Antec Truepower 480 (air coming out the back of the PSU seems really hot...dunno if that means anything)
No intakes...the intake holder broke :(

hmmm..I thought mine was bad. Yours take the cake.
I also idle at 30c and 47-49c on full load.

Forgot to ask. What case are you using? Got intake and exhast fans?

Are you using Artic silver??? If not get some...If you are then I would look at whether you used too much and basically clean up and reapply....

The alpha is a great hsf but the fan I have the ys tech fan at 3600rpm does 48cfm....make sure you have the fan sucking air off of the hs as per diagram...

I have a 1.6@2.74ghz w/ 1.71v (1 case intake and 1 case exhaust) I get 39c idle and 52c under load in hours of prime95....

Large swings tell me fan is insufficient to move the heat quickly enough off of the surface to avoid build up or the thermal compound is not conducting the heat efficiency as well...

is it making proper contact?
that seems pretty damn high....especially with THAT heatsink....

//edit
make sure the fan is the right way...large jumps (to me) = need more cfmage!

D'OH!

Bring in fresh air......Get a new intake fan.... Fresh air and good circulation is key....;)

With no intake no fresh air is being brought in to cool hs effectively...You would be cooling it with the already warmer air being exhausted by the fan on the hs....Try running with case side off and see how much the temps come odwn...What is sytem temp under load??? I would think with that cpu temp given it would have to be 34-36c by itself...

I am seeing the same thing.. 32C at idle and 47C under full load. I have great circulation in my case as well..

im pretty sure its not the intake...i just had a 1.8A in this same mobo a day ago and the temps were fine. 34C idle and 48C Load

so i was expecting my 2.4B to run similarly albeit alittle hotter. I've tried reseating the heatsink twice today and its still the same. Currently my idle temp is 32C but when I run prime95 it jumps all the way up to 60C+ :( Maybe the AS3 has to settle? but that usually only accounted for maybe a 1-2C difference in the past.

haven't had any stability problems as of yet but id like to be on the safe side since the cpu throttles around 70C if i've read some of these other posts correctly

is there a possibility that i screwed on the alpha too tight? i didn't think this could be a problem but when i unseated the heatsink the second time i noticed that the sides of the cpu were scraping the buttom of the heatsink a little bit all around where the edges of the heatspreader are

edit:
tried my hand at overclocking with this 2.4B C1 and oddly enough my temps at 150FSB and 133FSB are exactly the same..64C...could there be something screwy with the thermal sensor on this board?

there is nothing wrong with your system ~ that is normal.

C1 cpus with HT disabled run hotter

HT attempts to distribute processing power simulataenously via the 2 ALU' units, therefore distributing heat. That was the whole point of HT actually, the slight to (extreme cases) huge performance increases is a total bonus !

so all these people who previously replied to me aren't using C1 chips? it still seems pretty high to me, anyone out there with a c1 chip confirm?

My C1 at default speed goes from 23/24 idle to 36 on full load.

Running at 46 now at 3096 @172 full load doing DPAD.
It boots at 3294 @183 fsb but won't make it to windows :( pitty.....
