Started playing with my new 2.4B yesterday.... Im not getting the results I had hoped for... Could you offer a few suggestions:

Here are the specs:

2.4B C1 SLEF FPO/Batch 3247A499
Mobo: Soyo P4S Dragon Ultra
512 PC2100 Crucial
256 PC2100 Crucial
256 PC2100 Crucial

CPU:DRAM Clock Ratio = 1:1
(there are options for 4:3, and 4:5 also)

Stable at 147 FSB (147x18 = 2646)
DRAM FREQ = 147x2

VCore of Proc @ 1.45, DDR(2.5V default)
CAS 2.5T, 7T,3T,3T,3T,2T

Here are some results I have so far:
FSB 165+ it wont even post.
FSB 155 it posted... then got a message that Windows XP missing file or corrupted file on boot.... wouldnt boot after...(anyone know why the OS gets corrupted on this overclock??) Reinstalled XP.....
FSB 150 posted, booted seemed stable.... during a long copy of CD to HD computer reboots...
FSB 147 is where it is at now and seems stable..... Running F@H for over 1 day.....

Since I dont think it the P4 holding me back here do you think it is
1) PC2100 mem not clocking well? I have not messed with ANY mem settings. Would like suggestions.
2) Soyo Mobo just doesnt like the 150 FSB?

Or should I be happy with the 2.65 it is running at? I am hesitant to up this more since it might corrupt my XP install.... I really need to know why this happens... driving me crazy....

Would welcome any comments!!!! I have not seen any Soyo 2.4B clockers here, anyone running this mobo?

Thanks!!!

My guess is the ram.
Try running Memtest86 overnight to see if it is.

boot to disk
hit c-2-3-0-space bar and run 10 loops of it (overnight)
(cough::right Thugs? :D::cough)

If you have memory errors, this will pick it up.

SiS moboard? ~ ditch it
no apg/pci lock ~ no 1/5 pci divider
sure is pretty tho :)

using 3 sticks of mem sure aint helpin ya either ~ run just 1 stick for now and try 2.6 or 2.7v vdimm.
youll need to memtest it too of course :)

I have to agree, sis with no pci/agp lock is like going to a whorehouse without a condom. you're asking to catch something & it's all bad. :(

OMG... LOL... :D:D That was funny...

I'd have to agree with these guys. Go out and grab a 845E, PE board, or if you're filthy rich like THUGS, grab a GB board. :D;)

yeah it's the memory I think. if you had 1 bank of PC2700 or higher I bet you'd see it clock alot higher.

Thanks for the posts.....

Need to get condom but that Soyo board WAS soo purty.....

A couple questions:
1) Seems like having 1GB of mem of 3 sticks is no good?
2) Can you explain what the agp/pci lock actually does?

Thanks again.......

1) well, when you're oc'ing, normally multiple dimms won't be able to high fsb compared to a single stick. Also, I've seen a lot of instances where boards just won't operate stably (@stock speed) when you fill up all the dimm slots.

2) AGP/PCI lock... simply put, this will allow you to "lock" your AGP/PCI freq. so that it desn't get affected when you raise the fsb to near-insane speed... :)

I guess that you guys are right in a lot of things here, however I have a different opinion. I thing that it is be board. I have that same board, I just bought it like Syntax. The only difference is that I am running an Athlon XP 2400. Just like him, I was very dissapointed because I have been waiting for a long time to get a nice board, memory, PS..everything you need to OC. Came home, made some nice hot coco, got stuff ready for the big play and gues what! my board won't do more then 150 FSB. I read somewhere that it seems to be an issue with this boards. I am running one stick of Kingston 512 MBs, CAS 2 at 166. The system seem to be pretty stable ah, and also I am running RAID 0. I found a new bios in Soyo's web site, but I have not tried it yet. I wish I new more about voltage to play with those settings and try to make my Athlon 2400 run faster then the 2.25 ghz it is doing right now. All I know to do is increase FSB, also tried to lower FSB and change cpu clock to 12, 12X and so on, but that didn't didn't work.

As you can see I need more help then I can give, just nice to find someone with the same problem.

If you take notice of the threads on Intel chipset compaired to Sis, you will see that Sis don't take kindly to overclocking. So, If you want to have good overclocking abilities and a much more stable system, go with Intel chipsets. Otherwise you will be at a limited factor. The wise do research! So, Research....."pretty" looks good but will she perform!;)

Wow, what a versatile board. It can run a Socket 462 Thoroughbred for you and a socket 478 Pentium 4 for Syntax.

Oh I forgot to tell you guys that I was running a dual processor setup with a P4 and T Bred.......... :)

So it looks like the moral of the story here is that the SIS 645 Chipset limits overclock abilities no matter which board it resides on........

My next purchase looks like the new Intel Chipset..... my new P4 2.4 C1 is locked in a cage at the moment.......

Go for an Abit IT7 MAX, I just got one and this board rocks. Out of an Epox 4G4A+, an Abit BD7-II RAID, and the IT7, the IT7 offers the lowest max vcore but gives me the highest overclock of the three.

I am running my 2.4B B0 stelling at 2.94 GHz right now, with the Retail cooler and 1.68 vcore.
