I'm upgrading my system and i dont know what to choose!!!
Pentium4@2,4 fsb800 with mobo 875pe or XP2800+ with nforce2 ultra?
I'm a hardcore gamer. Is it a big difference btw them in performance ? It is worth to pay EXTRA money for the first combination?

Damn you Shimmi. Since you've made the switch I even want to. My biggest thing is Id have to find a buyer for my current rig. Then pay the 170 for the P4 and 100-170 for a good p4 board. Then find someone that would trade 2x256 for my one 512 stick...oh well.

i'm telling you...

it's well worth the money and not THAT much more...

you can get the IS7-E for 99 bucks at newegg and it's a great overclocking board...

Yeah..I just built a p4 system for a friend and I like it so far..the feel of it, etc. The only think really holding me back is the 170 for the 2.4C.

:)

it's a bit pricey (when compared to a 1700+ or a 2500+) but it is well worth it...

and considering i only had to go through 1 chip to find one that could do 3.5 ghz as compared to 10+ to find one amd that could do 2.5 ghz...

yeah.. i'm VERY happy with my P4...

WEEEEEEE :D I'm awaiting the arrival of an ABIT IC7, Intel P4 2.4C that was run at 3 GHz, and my RMAed A7N8X Deluxe! Fun fun fun!! :)

I only used my AMD system for about 6 months (from January til July). It died twice, so I've RMAed twice. Not nice stuff...I just sold my system piece by piece.

Get an AMD 2500+ and overclock its 166FSB too 200FSB that gives you 2.2Ghz and a 3200+ Rating ...

Don?t forget to get DDR 3200 or faster ram so u can get 200FSB

With the money you save spend it on the best videocard you can afford !!!

You can get two 2500+ CPU?s and 2 Nforce2 boards .. for the same price as one P4 2.4Ghz and Intel board.

Money better spent on a videocard. :)

how do you figure that math???

2500+ x 2 = 88 x 2 = $186 dollars

let's pick the 8rda+ x 2 = 79 x 2 = $158 dollars

$344 dollars

intel setup

2.4C - $170 (or you can get it $142 doing the whole PM/rebate thing from office depot or staples... i forget which)
abit is7-e - $99

$269 dollars or $241 dollars

hmmm...

$269 < $344

I Live in Australia and i dont know what you guys pay for stuff there but over here i can get an

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ $170au and a Gigabyte 7N400-L1 Nfoce2 Ultra 400 Board for $140

Intel Pentium 4 2.4Ghz $320au and Gigabyte Intel 875pe Board for $300

Like i said you can get two AMD boards and CPU's for the same price as 1 Intel system

In the original post the guy said he wants the best both these boards have the best AMD and Intel can offer

There is still a massive saving there and u can spend that saved money on a DVD burner or a better vid card

I know the intel System is better and will overclock more but if you only get a 9700 non pro or a 9600 then the System with a 256MB/128MB 9800 Pro or a 256/128MB 5900 Ultra will be better for games then the one with a 15% faster CPU
and would have cost the same
