Ya need to let us know what is happening. Is it freezing up? A blue screen? Will it not even boot into windows? Let us know and we will go from there...

3DMark crashes back to desktop or blue screens, CS crashes back to desktop using OGL. :(

I would if I wasn't scared of going over 1.7 vcore. At idle, it stays around 1.66 vcore when I set the vcore up to 1.575.

Well, finally got the rig setup and tested, but looks like I hit a wall with this processor at 167 fsb . Any further tips would be greatly appreciated by some of the OC gurus of this fine forum.
Sell the chip and try another. :D

You can go up to 1.625v in the BIOS.
Should give you about 1.664v actual on average.

From what we see with thug's system is the asus mobo may drop vcore a bit under load...so to verify this with this board list the vcore under heaviest load....

185fsb = 3.515Ghz
1.625, Bios
1.664, Idle

more vcore (1.625v bios) might get you to 170fsb ~ these chips dont get too far past default :(

<EDIT> ooops, forgot this....

1.60v Bios
1.66v Idle
1.56v Load

higher multiplier then my 1.6a but I got still another 150mhz going from 1.53v to 1.7v on my 2.4b...I could do 3.15ghz at default but not 3.2ghz (for 5 hours pf prime95)...so it is somehwere in there....I got 3.33ghz (185fsb) with 1.7v actual at idle (1.64v load p95) for 12hours of prime95 and 10pass memtest, and 2 hour + divx encoding,,,

That's what I'm thinking, but I'll play with the vcore a bit more. :)

What is everyone using to monitor your vcore with BTW? I am using MBM5 and it says 1.66 idle when I have it at 1.575 in the bios. :Q

That is what I have been running.
ATI AIW 9700 Pro with Fast Writes and Write Combining disabled.

I don't have a way of testing the actual Vagp but some say that the Vagp is the
same actual vagp when set to 1.6 or 1.7 in the bios.

Ok cool, trying with 1.6 on the Vagp now.

BTW, what is the FPO pack date on that 2.53 of yours?

I actually have two 2.53 Multi VID chips - both OEM from Fry's
Guess that I will sell one or return it to Fry's
Can't figure out how to put two in this P4G8X ;)

Both run about the same and are Prime stable 1.664v
The one in my system right now
fsb = 185
SL6S2 - Malay
L249A570-0249
The other
fsb = 183
SL6S2 - Malay
L249A570-0487

Seems that the L plant Multi VID max out about 185fsb
but I have booted and ran 190fsb same vcore (except Prime)
The Q plant Multi VID's max at about 170fsb

AGP/PCI lock set at 66/33
Look under display properties/advanced/troubleshoot
uncheck the write combining box

Wow I am a little surprised this week 3 2003 wasn't better...I wonder if something is holding you back!!!

the fact that vcore dropped off like a cliff makes me think something may be holding you back...

BIOS OPTIONS
FSB tested= 133 thru 171fsb
Vcore used = 1.5v thru 1.625v (At 1.625v, it idles at 1.71v!!!)
Halt On = no errors
Drives = auto (CDRoms)
Vdimm = 2.7v
Vagp = 1.6v
PCI latency at 64 ***********why not leave it at default 32????************
AGPX8 enabled
Video memory cache mode USWC ****disbale this and all cache mode stuff like bios, etc.****
AGP/PCI at 66.66/33.33
AGP Aperture = 128
Delay Transaction = disabled **********why??? I have never had an issue with this being enabled in the bios****
Printer/Serial ports = disabled
USB, Audio, 1394, SATA = disabled *****with a pci.agp lock I can't see the issue with the usb locked...I never do have had no issues during my ocs for the last years. tried disabling them and get absolutely nothing more.*****

ATI SmartGart Fast writes = disabled (known issue with BIOS and ATI cards *** might as well try settings agp 4x, set aperture to 256 and run agp/pci slightly above spec as well****

Hmmm does 29160 scsi card hold people back? I also have a 29160 scsi card.

Just a thought I will throw out there. Anyone that has the 29160 card that has high fsb, please speak up.

Jhites - Thanks! Do you think the Write Combining may be holding me back a bit?

Jgtdragon - I've had to disable Fast Writes off the ATI SmartGart due to the known issue with this board. 8X and Write Combining are on for me, and no stability issues with the 166fsb. As for the SCSI, who knows, maybe try this with an IDE drive. ;)

Duvie - Thanks for the pointers!
PCI latency at 64 ***********why not leave it at default 32????************
Either settings, didn't make a difference for me. I've tried it at 32 before, and I left it at 64.

Delay Transaction = disabled **********why??? I have never had an issue with this being enabled in the bios****
This is for ISA devices, which I don't understand why it still in the BIOS when there are only PCI slots. Anyhow, again, either settings didn't make much difference.

USB, Audio, 1394, SATA = disabled *****with a pci.agp lock I can't see the issue with the usb locked...I never do have had no issues during my ocs for the last years. tried disabling them and get absolutely nothing more.*****
I don't use any of these things for now, but may use the SATA eventually. Just following Thugs' rule of thumb, and keep as many variables out of the equation. :)

ATI SmartGart Fast writes = disabled (known issue with BIOS and ATI cards *** might as well try settings agp 4x, set aperture to 256 and run agp/pci slightly above spec as well****
I've tried it in the Asus bios to set it at 4X AGP, and it doesn't make a difference to the ATI settings, it always stays on 8X AGP even when switching to 4X and rebooting. I've tried running above specs on the agp/pci (68/34), but since I'm using SCSI, it's definately is a no go as it corrupted some files (Creative Labs files) before.

I'm beginning to think this 2.4b C1 Malyasian chip isn't going to go any faster without some hardcore voltage and cooling. Oh well, looking into a 2.53 in the near future, and see how that goes. (Damn you Jhites! :p)

Some bugs with the P4G8X:

- fast writes must be disabled with this board and ATI cards.
- mouse light (Intellimouse Explorer Optical) stays lit when computer is off, even with the wake on mouse disabled in the bios.
- built-in lan stays powered on my switch when computer is off, again even with the wake on lan disable in the bios.
- the beta 1004_004 bios didn't really do anything, as I never had any issues it was to fix according to Asus.

Hopefully, bios fixes from Asus will come for the P4G8X soon. Otherwise, pretty solid and rockstable quality as usual from Asus.
