<< And in first quarter next year, AMD releases Barton: Palomino that uses .13 micron tech. It will propably have architectual improvements (like 166Mhz FSB, 512kb L2-cache, wider internal data-paths etc.). >>

Unless the roadmap has changed recently, Thoroughbred comes first. Barton is Thoroughbred with SOI technology.

I am somewhat doubtful whether AMD is ready to deliver .13µ CPUs, though.

<< What is this AMD ??? Pentium 4s are the fastest there is! I heard it on TV!! duh >>

LoL! The TV never lies! Reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Bart and Lisa hug the TV.

After the K6-2, with the relase of the T-Bird and the Duron, AMD was always better, plain and simply because of the price!!!

D'oh! I always get those two mixed up!

Nah, I don't think AMD has propblems getting .13 micron process up&running. They are few months behind Intel there, but I think they will manage just fine.

ho hum

gee leeme guess - intel will release a 2.5 Ghz that will be faster than AMD
then next month AMD will lead
then next month intel will lead
then next month AMD will lead

ho hum

i've been thinking of replacing my P3 gig, so AMD it is...until next month.

LMAO, "Poor Intel when are they going to learn" Okay children, previous to the Athlon AMD sucked okay, sorry but the floating point was pathetic, I used em up until I went with the Celeron's on a BX chipset. Man AutoCAD ran 5X better on a Celeron then any AMD then and it was the same when it came to the Pentium Generation 1's vs the K5 even.

Right now AMD is ahead of the game when it comes to performance, I don't see they are when it comes to stability tho. but why say such things about "when are they going to learn"? They have been ahead of the game for more then a decade, so sorry get with the program.

What happens if the next generation of chips (Itanium) or whatever goes in favor of Intel being the superior chip again?

I think intel still have some trick up their sleeve but are waiting to see what amd comes up with next then hit them hard.
Heck, right now intel is still the best of the best.
whether you like intel or amd is just preference but intel is clearly superior when it comes to quality, stability wise, performance, reliability and just a coOL name YoU CAn TRUst.
To me, VIA or Sis, or Aladdin chipset leave somewhat to be desired.

Then so be it. It is us, the consumer, who benefit from the increased competition, the lower prices, and the "rush" of innovation. I have no doubt Intel will rush a 2.2GHz Willamette part to market, to counter the AthyXP attack, if Northwood isn't ready yet (and I don't believe it is.)

Don't doubt... whatever you do... AMD already has working .13µ capability. They're just working on upgrading all their facilities to use it efficiently first.

🙂

I know these things.
