thought I'd share with you guys the results I've gotten with this new sspec (am I the first to post it?)

its not totally stable though, probably cos I'm using the stock hsf haha
running at 1.8v (although mbm5 shows 1.7v under load, so which should I report it as? 1.7 or 1.8v?)

running at 2.83ghz right now max temp at load 53°C (for full stability)
pretty hot here in Singapore 🙂
plus i don't have any case fans running! (case temps almost 40°C!) hehe
 
WOW...seems the latest 1.8A are getting their deserved attention now...that's a great o/c...good luck on get 3GHz...i know you CAN DO IT
as for vcore voltage...you just need to state idle vcore and load vcore...that will be the best choice...if you want...you can post your set vcore and mobo so we have some idea of how the mobo reacts to vcore adjustment...i.e. ASUS mobo tends to overvolt ~0.6-0.7v above set vcore, but that's during idle...when under load...it is actually what you set vcore to...say i have mine set at 1.60v in bios, in windows during idle, vcore(I) = 1.68v, and under load, vcore(L) = 1.60v

thanks for the encouragement! I can smell 3ghz too man..its such a tiny little bit away only..ahhh..hehe

when I set +2.75v in bios, instead of 1.775v, I get 1.8-1.82v
YET in windows, I get at idle about 1.78v (hmm..thats about "+0.275v"..)
at load it drops to about 1.71v..
so I don't know what voltage to report now man..btw, the voltage drop is normal at load? or only peculiar to some motherboards like my epox here?

Dont go above 1.75v or you'll kill that chips overclock ability.
 
I agree...Get that idle vcore to 1.75 or under....

The vcore swing is getting wide...may be reaching limit of the power supply or cpu you are running....I get only .05 drop at 1.6@2.736ghz...1.71v idle and 1.66v in load of prime95...

upgraded hsf ain't gonna do much more than bring your temp down, you were unstable probably because you need more voltage (I agree with everyone else, get it below 1.75v actual!).

at default..I think I hit 140fsb or something..maybe more..can't remember, I cranked it up straightaway 😛

using an abit bd7II now, stable at 3.05ghz @1.76v..
 
so the abit board is doing better than the epox ...hmm..I was thinking of getting the epox...now I am not so sure..

One great overclock..congrads...all I would like to get is 150 fsb
 
its not enough to just say that the abit is better other factors, remounting, clamping pressure, new aircon 😛 have to be taken into account. but the the voltage drop at load seems lower with the Abit I gotta say..
 
aircon???..why would those other factors have any bearing on the o/c..did you use different thermal compound

room temps ie. system temp ie. water temps ie. cpu temps have dropped a coupla ° 🙂

I am not understanding your point!!! You don't want to have a large drop in vcore during idle and load....since you rarely will be going full blow you are at idle likley to be giving it will over 1.8v....My asus mobo when it was set to 1.83v idle dropped to 1.76v under load and the chip was still damaged in 2 weeks....Beware...


I would get the chip to 1.75v or lower idle....I run mine at 1.71v idle and 1.66v load....At lower speeds the drop is usually only .03 from idle to load.

I also noticed once the chip needs 1.7v it almost needs another .025v every single fsb boost and so the 4-5fsb more you get for the boost is not worth the potential damage...
 
what don't you understand? I meant that its a good thing of course that the voltage drop is less with the Abit, but the other factors like room temp might have accounted for the higher overclock too.

btw, when you say your chip was "damaged" in 2 weeks, HOW exactly WAS it damaged?

It was an 1.8@2.52ghz w/ 1.775v in bios 1.83v actual idle
It was damaged in the sense that it started having major crashes...I downclocked it back down to 2.4ghz (133fsb)...It lasted there 1 week and then I had to take it down further...It finally came to a rest at 1.8@2.25ghz w/ 1.58v. Any voltage higher even at lower speeds it would error....It ran there for 8-10 weeks until I got my 1.6...It is still agood chip that will run, albeit not the likes it once did...Who knows it may live a short life as well. Could die in less then a year...


The damage is not like instant death but degredation....It will suddenly not be able to run same oc that was once prime stable...It can't take the higher voltages...lots of fatal errors with stack dumps...

Ofcourse I couldn't believe it and spent hundreds of dollars buying new power supply, new mobo, and new vid card (Ah, I just wanted this!!! wife didn't know!!!)....Still had errors. Epox was picky and got errors at default. Though when I put it back in the sis645 asus mobo it ran again at 2.25ghz, but there was obvious some type of problem...Got new 1.6 and the rig below is testament it was the chip...Old mobo was sold and is kicking arse for another guy. Same with old sparkle 350watt PS....

Hmmmm... is all pack date beginning in July are SL68Q chip? I wonder if I get one of this chip, can I get 133fsb with pc800 (knowing my ram can run pc1066) at default voltage.
 
No I got a SL63X with a July pack date. It runs at 2.61 at 1.7v(BIOS setting and no load) and drops to 1.6v under load. So they aren't bad.

P.S. At the 1.75vcore setting it was stable at 2.7, but was starting to push it since I have already lost my 1.6A to high voltage degradation. I try not to make the same mistakes twice.
