P4 1.6GHz or Celeron 2.8GHz for LAPTOP???

Which processor would perform better? I have a budget for a new/used laptop and I'm considering the IBM Thinkpad A31 P4 1.6GHz or a new Toshiba 2.8GHz celery.

Any suggestions?

If it's the Celeron D, def. go for the Celeron D.

Even if it isnt Celeron D, I believe the celeron is still faster. That's over 1ghz difference there. In theory, it should over-compensate for the lack of cache.
Now, the question is, do you want an IBM or a Toshiba?
IBM > Toshiba in pretty much all aspects except specs.

I tried one of the toshiba laptops with a 2.7 celeron and it was dog slow, even when I put in an extra 512mb of ram. I took it back and bought a lappy with a 1.4 pentium-m and it runs circles around the tohiba and gets over 4 hours on a battery charge. The celeron battery would get about 1.5 hours on a battery charge.

yeah buddy boy.. a 1.4 p-m = about a 2.0 p4.. they're talking about a 1.6 p4

PM 1.6 comsumes the same wattage as 1.4, so the battery should last the same.

No question PM 1.6 will blow the celeron out of the water.

save up your money an just wait. The old one sucks and the new one sucks. They have amd laptops for under 600 bucks at walmart or you can get a cheapo laptop from HP with an athlon 2800 for under 700. Doen waste your money on what your thinging of buying. Just steal the differince from your folks. lol

Okay guys, stay on topic. No need to start a flame war.

Personally, I would get the IBM. First of all, it has a "better" processor name to show off (even if it probably is slower than the toshiba's). Second of all, the build quality is great. Support is also very good.
