P4 1.6a Soyo dragon ultra mobo question

I just got in on the Bay Area Fry's dea for a p4 1.6a and a soyo dragon ultra motherboard, and so far have only been able to get it up to 1.92. I hear people getting up to 2.13 and beyond with no problem whatsoever, and I was wondering what I'm doing wrong?

What I did was bump up the CPU FSB to 122 (anything higher is not stable) at default voltage, running at CPU to RAM ratio of 1:1, and all the other options, AGP and PCI were at default. Forgive me, I am an overclocking noob :) But could I get a higher FSB by raising the voltage? Or is there something else I can do?

Appreciate the help :)

Read this thread. You can try changing the voltage but it seems like others are having problems with it.

I think there might be a BIOS problem because the P4S Ultra reviews I've read mention the same o/cing problem as well....limited overclocks of ~110 are the norm with that board. Meanwhile, other Sis645-based boards don't seem to have this limitation.

Hopefully Soyo will get a new bios update out soon to correct this problem. This board looks awesome otherwise and I am only waiting for news that it will get a 1.6a up to 2.1+ before I buy it myself. :)

EDIT: Forget everything I just said. It seems Soyo has fixed the bug and overclocking is now doable with the P4S. :)

Ahh cool thanks, glad to hear I'm not the only one having some problems getting it up to the promised land (2.13) :)

I tried changing the voltage up to 1.55, 1.6 and 1.65, and it basically had no effect. I couldn't get the FSB up any higher, and it may or may not have made the sytem less stable. Not sure because I didn't let it run very long.

As for the board itself, yeah it's a pretty awesome board. 2 IDE controllers, built in NIC, 2 USB in back, 4 more USB on the front and a mail in offer for ANOTHER usb card with 2 usb ports on it. Which makes 8 USB ports. What does a guy need with 8 USB ports anyway?

OCed my 1.7ghz p4 with soyo dragon ultra to 2.04ghz. First i tried 133*1.7 = 2.25, wasnt stable. Using 120*1.7=2.04, works fine so far.

exp, thanks for the link here and on another thread to vr-zone for their review. It's the first one I've seen.

No problem. FYI, if you ever want to find any motherboard review Neoseeker is nice but this site is simply awesome. Very comprehensive and updated regularly.

Also, diskop, two people on this board have been able to hit 2.4GHz+ with their Northwoods on the Soyo so it seems that the BIOS problem has been fixed. So if you replace your regular 1.6 with a 1.6A and make sure you have the latest update from Soyo you should be able to overclock pretty well.
