I am watching the temp in the Bios and with the pc probe utility that came with my P4B266. The temp does'nt budge. even if i overclock it to 2.1 Ghz and play games. It must be something weird with the meter. The fanspeed seems right. I tried Motherboard monitor and it gave me a diffrent temp that rose when I played a game. Someone know why I get 40 C all the time with pcprobe and bios setup?

One more question. I didn't remove the pad on the processors heatsink before i applied some siliconpaste. does it make a big diffrence?

it is recommanded taht you should remove the pad before apply thermal paste...but if your temp reading are in good shape...then i won't worry about it

what BIOS rev. are you using on your P4B266? 1001 and 1002 i believe had the temp stuck @ 40c all the time...might want to check on upgrading your BIOS (i'm running the P4B266-C w/ 1004 BIOS and my temps change).

I am running bios rev 1007 beta 3, but it was the same with rev 1005. I am a little concerned with the cpu temperature. I got a 1.6 Ghz Northwood and I am running it at 2.1 Ghz with 1.5 V. Motherboard monitor seems to read the temperature correctly and it get up to 45 C after a couple of minutes of heavy load. I'm afraid it will rise even more when I put in another harddrive and a geforce 4 4200 which i'm going to overclock. Sometimes it is much warmer in my room too. When should I be concerned? I'm thinking of removing the fan and try to remove the pad but I don't know if it will help much.
