I have a P4 1.5 proccessor in my computer, now i do not have much knowlege about overclocking and how far i can push anything.

I would like to overclock my proccessor, but the motherboard i am using is made by packardbell (NEC). It does not give me the any options in the BIOS. Is there any other way i can overclock, maby through a windows based program??? A friend that i know told me that you have to do it through BIOS. Does any onbe know any good websites, a program ect. and is there a program that can tell me how far i can safley clock my CPU???

Any suggestions are welcome!

My system...
P4 1.5
Discovery Packard Bell Motherboard
Geforce4 Ti 4600
Sound Blaster Live Special Edition
512 mb PC133 Ram
Windows XP Pro
2x Segate Barracuda 7200rpm hard drives

Thanx

the chip can probably go 1.8-2.0ghz (125-133fsb) on default voltage but i dont think the board can ~ even with a software program.
see if you can pickup a cheap (used) Asus P4B (sdram) board. that might be your best sollution.

You'll need a different mobo, one with better BIOS options. My old 1.5 and Asus p4B did 1.7ghz easily on pc133 RAM. You could probably go higher with a DDR board, maybe 1.8, 1.9 ghz.

are you willing to spend a little bit of money? a nice 2.5+ gigahertz northwood, a Granite Bay motherboard and 512 MB of PC2700 would do your ti4600 a lot more justice. i personally don't see the point of getting a new motherboard just to overclock a Willamette pentium IV a couple hundred mHz. the fact that you are running SDR SDRAM means that you are probably not going to see much of a difference even if you get the Willy up to 2.0 ghz (which it most likely will not do). the Pentium IV thrives on bandwidth, and PC133 just doesn't cut it.i would just save until you have enough money to replace the cpu, mobo, and ram completely. now of course, if you can get a nice socket 423 board used for next to nothing then by all means get it. the fact that you will have much more control of the system will be worth a little money. but don't expect much of an overall speed increase.

your current system will be fine until April. i don't believe that Doom III will be out until the summer at the earliest, and you should be able to run Unreal 2 at medium resolutions and quality just fine (if UT2K3 is any kind of indication).

as of right now, i would definitely go Intel. by the summer, this situation may very well have changed if Hammer is released.
