I made another post, and asked this question. Haven't had any replies, so here goes. I'm wondering if I'll get more than 10,000 3d marks with the setup in the title. pentium 4 1.5ghz socket 423 512mb RDRAM 800mhz and an ATI radeon 9500. Obviously it's going to bottleneck. But if I can get 10,000 3d marks in 2001se I should be able to play doom 3 with decent settings.. I've looked all over madonion trying to find this setup to see it's results, and found nothing. So I'm hoping you guys can shine some light on the subject.

Thanks alot, Ruckas-

Check out my thread. In some apps my Celeron 1.4 will be faster than your P4 1.5. However, my current setup with Radeon 9100 isn't the fastest in the world.

;) Yeah the P4 1.5ghz is very underpowered, it was the start of Intel's 'mhz over perf' thing after the Athlon and Duron totally trounced their PIII and Celeron. The Rad9500 nonPRO is also a little underpowered as perf at stock is on par with some Rad8500/9100 cards except you get DX9, better AA and shoud o/c pretty good. I'd suggest a faster P4 would be a wise move but the 423 are pricey so you may want to consider selling your CPU+mobo+RIMM and moving to a newer CPU+478+DDR (maybe DC-DDR). If you have a Rad9500PRO then you're just below a GF4TI4600 and faster with AA & AF but again your CPU will still be holding you back.

Thanks Ruckas-
Does that really matter to you? Personally I couldn't care less what 3DMark2001 gave me. And anyways, the current standard is 3DMark2003. ;)

sigh, I don't mean to be rude. But I didn't ask what you think the standard is. And I didn't ask you if it's all I care about. So please don't answer questions I didn't ask. Because you waste my time, and the people reading this. To rephrase and help you better understand what I'm saying. I want to know if it will score more than 10 grand in 2001se, as that's the area I'm shooting for. With that score I will be able to play doom3 with decent video settings. Which is what I want. Just answer that question, if you can't don't post. That's the way it works.

Now please, can someone answer my question? THANKS.

Take it easy buddy.

The answer is that having a specific 3DMark2001 score will not predict whether or not you can play Doom 3 with decent video settings. So the question is not really relevant.

;) I'll give you a tip, 3Dmark doesn't differentiate between Rad9500 and the much faster Rad9500PRO, Rad9700 or Rad9700PRO. However Rad9500 at stock is on par with a Rad8500 which in turn is slower thana GF4TI4200. Use this for your search and you'll find your answer, I'd tell you but I wouldn't want to waste my time LOL!

no, you will not break 10k with that setup. if you overclock the cpu you might maybe. stock i don't think so.

just so you know, Doom III is OpenGl and 3dMark is directx, so one really isn't much of an indicator for the other.

I believe you can get more than 10k pts when you use 2 ghz or faster northwood..
I think you will get about or something close to 9000..
P4 1.5 is as fast as 1 ghz duron.. can't expect 10k from it..

I'd have to disagree. 3DMark2003 is crap and runs like it, too, so 3DMark2001 will be the standard for awhile yet.:)
