I have 8 P3V4X systems with IDE zip drives and P3 256K L2 chips (550-650Mz). 4
of the systems have win2k and 3 have win98se, one is linux (redhat 6.2). I
am having problems with all of the zip drives on the win2k machines.
The drives are installed and show up and appear fine. Yet, they will only
read a about half of our zip disks (various brands new and previously used).
The weird thing is that if one of the win2k machines will not read the disk
none of them will. If you take the disk to any win98, win95, linux or winnt
box with the same configuration (motherboard, cpu, zip100) you can
read/write just fine. If I re-format the disk with another machine (win98,
nt) and put the disk back in the win2k machine it is read just fine. I have
also taken the unreadable disk to other win2k machines and had no problems
reading/writing. It should also be noted that their are various flavors of
the zip 100 drive (panasonic and nec) and both have the same problem.
I have tried flashing to latest BIOS for the board and installing the latest
4-in-1 drivers from via and nothing has fixed the problem.
I have searched usenet and all over the web and seen people having similar
problems with some other via chipsets (KT133), but none with the 133A.
Is anyone else having/seen this problem? Otherwise, does anyone have any
ideas as to what could be wrong?
TIA, TS
