P3V4X + FX5500 = no go

The fan on my GeForce 256 was going, so I figured I may as well just get a whole new video card, since even a cheap one should be better than the 256.

So I got a cheap FX5500. I should meet all the requirements; the P3V4X I have is supposedly AGP2.0/4X compatible, which is the minimum for the 5500.

When I put the card in and try to boot, I get a beep code for "video card not detected". I suppose the card could be bad, but I really doubt it.

I'm already running the latest BIOS, what else can I try?

My old one still works, or else I wouldn't be able to post this. I don't have another machine to swap the 5500 into.

It's used, but I know it was working for the person I got it from.

I have that mobo, might be a via problem.

The via drivers are tough on video cards.

Check into updating the via drivers for the Operating System that you have.
If you have an old OS then you need the drivers that go with that OS.
Its all on their web site. Good Luck.

Looks like I screwed up reading your post.....

Guess that all my problems with VIA and video cards came back to haunt me.

Did you check the bios to see if there were any relevant settings to AGP 4x and 1.5v that needs adjusting? It is also another long shot, but I wonder if it could be a AGP slot and/or PSU power issue?
