I was just wondering if it's just me, but I recently just upgraded my Dream Machine with the following specs:

Asus P3V4X Mobo
PIII 667EB Mhz Slot 1
MicroQ (I think, generic?) 128MB PC133 SDRAM
CL TNT2 Ultra 32MB AGP
CL SB Live! Mp3
CL 56K ISA V.90 Speakerphone Modem
CL Encore 2X DVD with Dxr2 Decoder Card
CL CD Writer 8432

Everything works fine except if I leave the computer off for longer than 5 hours and I turn it back on, it goes into the BIOS and displays the following error message:

During the last boot-up, your system hung for an improper CPU speed setting. Your system is now working in safe mode. To optimize the system performance and reliability, make sure the CPU speed conforms to the specifications of your CPU.

Now the strange things:
1. This machine is NOT overclocked.
2. The system did not crash/hung the last time it was shutdown.

Can anyone devise a solution? Like, what would be defective? The memory? The CPU? Or even the motherboard? I tested the memory on a PIII 500Mhz and it works fine. The system doesn't freeze or anything... CPU? Bad CPU from Intel? Mobo? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

try overclocking it just a lil just for the heck of it to see if that will make it work right
get the latest bios
and other than that you may just have a bad board

I agree about getting the latest bios...it's at version 1005 now, vs. 1001 that comes with the board, and there've been quite a few bugs fixed along the way. I've been helping someone else out with a USB problem with this board and have written step by step instructions on how to update the bios. If you haven't done it before, you can check it out at about mid-way through the posts at:

Otherwise, you'll just need to go to the Asus website, get a copy of "aflash.exe" at ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/flash/aflash.exe and the latest bios, which in your case is p3v4x105.awd, unzipped from the following file:ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/slot1/pro133a/p3v4x/p3v4x105.zip
