I recently saw an updated manual for the 410 that mentioned that you can use P3 100Mhz processors up to 700Mhz (probably the latest processor out at the time) if you get the latest bios (currently A14) and NT4 SP4.

I borrowed a couple of P3 600's and tested it.
The bios and NT do recognize both CPU's and it seems OK.
I left it overnight running the NT 3D screensaver.
This morning it had the BLUE SCREEN of DEATH.
The event log said that it rebooted this morning after 18 hours running.

The BLUE SCREEN has me a little worried, but I am wondering how fast of a processor it would handle, 750, 800, 850?

Has anyone out there tried this?

Thanks,

Mike

What kind of heatsink did your friend's P3 have ? I have several dual running at 850/800 and 1Ghz (require a lot of cooling)

I haven't had a BSOD for about 1.5 year, and these are trader workstation so it's up all the time.. got some screen shots also... but not many heatsink fit those tight spot.. change that exhaust fan to a higher speed one and use one of the drive bay to suck in some cold air..

The BSOD probably attribute to other software, I build new workstation monthly with update drivers..etc..

I have precision 420s also, no jumper required but you can go 850 for sure if you dont want to risk 1ghz.

410 is one of the most stable machine I used... use W2k, much better
