Does the P35 or the 975X chipset support up and coming penryn intel cpu's?

In most case the P35 will, if not a Bios upgrade is all that is likely needed

the 975X is a bit older so you would have to check with the MB Mfr (the X38 replaced the 975x)

975x doesnt support penryn, unless some manufacturer recently made a new 975x board, as i dont think 975x boards have been in production in a while.

The Asus P5W-DH Deluxe board uses a 975 chipset and according to the Asus Website, it is compatible with E8200, E8400 and E8500. I believe those chips are 45nm
