I recently replaced my LiteOn DVD burner as it was starting to act up. I got another IDE burner - a Samsung - since I can use it in my older systems if need be. But practically all the cd-r's, dvd's I burn contain errors, or just won't burn at all. No matter what program I use they will often begin writing the lead-in but won't move on to writing the data. Or there are errors at the beginning of the disc, but the rest of the disc is fine.
At first I thought it was a faulty burner. So I swapped it for the same model and the issues continue. I've tried several types/brands of discs and it makes no difference.
Anyway, I have asked about it at cdfreaks and several people say it's due to the JMicron controller on the motherboard. They say its crap. But that doesn't explain why my 2 previous burners worked fine. Then again the LiteOn died pretty quickly.
So does anyone know if this is true? I've googled about the problem and on these P35 mobos the usual issues are due to wrong raid configuration etc, which the DS3L doesn't have, or the burner getting stuck in PIO mode. But I did find several posts about SATA/IDE port conflicts. I have already played the "musical sata port" game though and lost.
The only other thing I can think of is a bad PSU, but I'm sure that is fine.
Is there a certain configuration which works best for this mobo, like which SATA port to plug my single HD in to prevent conflicts with the IDE? Or should I just exchange the burner for a SATA model?
