Apparently the sub-$100 P35 MB is a hot market. Doing a NewEgg search, the P31's are lumped in with the P35's. Anyone know how they differ?

Is the P31 a good overclocker?

Thanks

Why get the P31 when the price for the better P35 is about about same? e.g. Gigabyte DS3L.

I don't trust Gigabyte products. He'd be better off getting an Abit IP35-E.

And you would trust Abit over Gigabyte. No no no. Abit has barely made it back to the podium - lets see how long they stay there.
Gigabyte is better on stability
Abit is better on overclockability
Asus is both
Msi is neither
Been down these roads before back tothe days of the BH6 for those of you old enough to remember. However I did order this now infamous Abit IP35-E so I will know next week which of the 2 is better. I am about to pimp my box

Abit took themselves off the podium. Gigabyte was never even on it to begin with.

I've read plenty of nightmare stories with their current boards too. Doesn't take but a search on Google.

Just because you've never owned a Gigabyte motherboard doesn't mean very much.

The current crop of Abit P35's are as good as the current crop of Gigabyte P35's. BTW, over the years, Abit and Asus have been the boards to own for reliable Intel overclocking. Gigabyte is much newer to the game than Abit.

p31 and p35 differences...

p31 has ich7 which has max 4 sata ports.

p35 has ich9 which has max 6 sata.

p31 has max 2 dimms, p35 has max 4 dimms. ich 7 has a real native ide port , ich9 doesnt so you are stuck with bridges from jmicron / marvell.

the p31/p35 difference, is the same as the g31/g33 difference outside of the onboard video (i have a g31, its a great chipset btw)
