Anyone know the performance differences? I want to know how the larger caches of the P3 xeons compare to the P4 Xeons. Anyone have any benches to share on this topic?

It depends what you want it for?

The 1MB and 2MB Pentium III Xeon chips will still rule over the Pentium 4 Xeon 256K friends of the family.

Current P4 Xeons are what Intel calls DP = Dual Processing.
Current P3 Xeons are DP and MP where MP = Multi Processing.

P3 256K L2 cache Xeons are DP
P3 1MB/2MB L2 cache Xeons are MP supporting upto 8 CPU's in 1 system.

Yeah, for a server app, the PIV, despite the much faster
frequency, is a dog. You're gonna be better off, for most
high traffic situations, to use a 4- or 8- way PIII Xeon server
populated with 1Mb or 2Mb processors...

The new PIV processor can only run 2-way parallel and only
have 256K cache. Not even close.
