P3 vs T-bird vs Classic

I have a 650mhz Athlon classic overclocked to 800mhz. I was wondering if my Athlon classic is as fast or slower than a 800mhz t-bird or p3? And is it worth upgrading to a 1gig cpu? Thanks

It's slower than a TBird 800, about the same as a PIII 800. You probably won't notice much difference in going to 1GHz unless you do RC5 or play a lot of games with a very high end vid card.

Word up!

Classic Athlon:
512KB 4-Way 64-bit 1/2 speed L2 Cache

Pentium III Coppermine
256KB 8-Way 256-bit full speed L2 Cache

That on-die cache can make the P3 Coppermine perform better compared to the Athlon Classic than you think.

the athlon has much better fpu performance natively than the piii. however the full speed cache did help the piii. but as for the piii being a better performer clock for clock... get over to some benchmarks or get a grip. no offense!

Well, Athlon classic beats the crap out of the P3/Katmai, T-bird and Coppermine are the next generation...

spend the money you would use to get the ne CPU and buy a Radeon 64ddr or something, GF2 Ultra's price should | soon, lol fun with forums!

The AMD T-bird is the fastest thing around and not even the PIII can keep up. Benchmarks have shown that the T-Bird is faster for everything no doubt. Go for a T-Bird not a PIII, and the Athlon Classic... Well speed wise and stability these are how they rank:

Speed:
T-Bird
Athlon OC classic
PIII

Stability:
PIII
T-Bird, close second
Athlon Classic, becuase it is OCed.

Hope this helped you out,

Albert.
