Hey guys, i'm setting up a old system for watercooling testing. I can't seem to find any temp sensors on the CPU 0.o I've used speedfan and motherboard monitor and both tell me nothing. The system is a compaq deskpro EN P550. Its a p3 katmai core 550. Intel 440BX/ZX chipset, PIIX4 southbridge. Is there anyway to measure the CPU temp? the system's only purpose is testing CPU waterblock efficiencies... and since i can't measure the temp... well... yeah. Is there an accurate, external method of measuring the cpu temp?

you didn't say, so i will ask..
did you look in the BIOS for the temp ??

i don't know of any accurate external method of getting the cpu temp
that i would believe

If I remember correctly, the PIII, at least the Katmai had seperate temprature sensors. I have a similar processor, Katmai PIII 450, and it doesn't have onboard temprature. My motherboard has a connector for a temprature sensor, but it's long gone.

Katami P3's did not have on die temp sensors these were slot 1 .25 micron chips if I recall correctly, some motherboards provided temp monitoring but it was never very accurate (desktop slot 1 p3 anyways) the coppermine .18 micron cpu's were the first mass produced p3's that had on the die temp sensors if I recall correctly, one of the "benifits" was w/ the proper motherboard they'd shut off instead of just melt.

ohh... i see... so does anyone know how to mount an external temp sensor? i need to find out how much heat a waterblock absorbs and removes. Is it possible to measure the water temperature rise instead of the cpu temperature drop?
