Hi people, i need some help here

i'm in the process of beefing up some antiques here.

and both the machiens are Slot1, they can accept P2/P3 CPUs (FSB 100)

i was doing some research, but it seems like thse Jumpers or Dip switches in the Mobo only applies to P2 CPUs

but P3 CPUs will over-ride any board Jumper/Dip switches.

Is that true? can anyone confirm that?

Because if that is indeed real, then i can get some nice 1000 mhz or 1300 mhz CPU into the mobo (provided i can find some 100 FSB versions)

This totaly depends on the motherboard, p3's were multiplier locked in most cases but in some cases if you selected the wrong multiplier it wouldn't boot or would go to a default multiplier but it depends on your motherboards

Hmm.. thanks... that helps me some what in what i'll do next

So i guess then the better way to go would be to get a Socket 3** to Slot1 converter, and avoid all that "might be" sort of issues.

then i can just pop in any P3 Tualantin i want :D

For Tualatin you need a slotket that specifically supports it or to do some mod with a pin-to-pin connection.

P3s are multiplier locked but you do need to get the FSB motherboard jumpers right. You probably need to do that for a slotket too (jumpers on slotket -and- motherboard not just slotket).

Also, many slot-1 boards only officially supported 66 MHz (intel LX chipset) or 100 MHz (intel BX) without overclocking the chipset.

Good point, i know Slotket works properly for Cerelons, but they are on 66 fsb mode, so i guess i might still be restricted by the 100 fsb if the sloctket is not able to convert FSB from 133 to 100

The slotket could run a 133 FSB P3 at 100 MHz, but it would keep the multiplier the same and run it at 75% of rated speed (P3 933 MHz would run at only 700 MHz).

Sloket-T's with built in tualatin support did exist, no idea whether you can still buy them anywhere.
